Ham1,

Okay. I got an answer from the Jim Blackburn on Ask the Apologist. Please refer to the following:

forums.catholic-questions.org/showthread.php?t=51417

What say you? I’m truly interested in this. I’m not trying to be confrontational. I think the procedure that you’re describing in which the doctor steps in after marital relations would not be effective with low motility sperm. I’ve really studied and investigated this particular infertility problem…believe me:)

Mt husband and I are still quite young and have been married for only two years, but we have been using NFP and TRYING to conceive and have been unsuccessful. I know there may still be a chance for us to conceive, and I don’t give up that hope, but I also know the feeling of dissapointment and the feeling of death inside when a new cycle starts, after I was so sure that “this time around” it would be different.

Before marrying, my husband and I–especially me, read and reflected about family life, and I have to say I formed an awarness of myself, and a spiritual understanding of marriage based on the idea that we WOULD be parents SOON. While being married has been an amazing blessing and I cannot imagine living my life any other way, things have been more difficult lately as I continue to expect pregnancy, and I am disappointed.

For me, the thought of living a married life with family brought joy because I thought it would be a wonderful, beautiful and natural way to submit my will to the will of God, and then I realized that in the absence of a child, I was seeking my will, rather than God’s! It is right to approach this from a spiritual perspective, because God is our partner in creating life, even in the absence of that creation. What is God teaching you through your struggle?

God MAY want you to have a family, and He may be calling you to seek more challenging ways of seeking a family, but be sure that you are praying and seeking His will rather than your own. I know for me, this has been a great spiritual challenge because I felt I desired a child for the right reasons, but still I was trying to demand it of God, and that is not the way it goes!

I don’t have an answer, but I do know the struggle, and I pray for you, your husband, and your family with a compassionate heart.

Some thoughts that have been a help to me:
Tenth Commandment: Thou shall not covet.

“All suffering given over to the Lord bears fruit in some kind of new life” --Archbishop Charles Chaput, Denver

“We do not want to waste this precious time before there are children…What does God want us to do with this time?” --Kimberly Hahn, in her book Life-Giving Love

I have no idea when or if such a procedure would be feasible. I only know that according to Donum Vitae it is possibel that such a procedure could be moral. I sent Jim Blackburn a private message on the subject and I will let you know what I find out. Also, I would say that the passage of the catechism is not in conflict with the passage from Donum Vitae.

Hello all:

Martino: “our individual opinions do not mean much when they contradict Church teaching”

Actually I have to disagree with that statement, the People ARE the church Our opinions do matter if we voice up,if we sit back and take the attitude of well its church law so i will accept it
not much changes.

Whats the Penalty for procreation in an artificial manner?

So all those “Catholics” that support abortion and homosexual marriage are reason enough to change the Church… because they speak up loud and clear on what they don’t agree with. As much as I want to say I’m being fecicious… it’s a serious question… :o

You’re right though… the people are the Church, but the Church doesn’t change just because of social norms and what we, as humans, perceive to be wrong due to our shortsightedness. And for that, I’m thankful the Church won’t change and instead, embraces us in our human form and guides us to do God’s will, not our own.

If you check out the Cathechism regarding grave versus mortal sins, you might be able to answer that question. There are three aspects for a sin to be mortal… 1) The act itself IS intrinsically evil and immoral (ie-rape, murder, incest, perjury), 2) The person must KNOW that what they’re doing or planning to do is evil and immoral. 3) The person must FREELY CHOOSE to commit the act or plan to do it.

It’s not an easy subject to embrace because most people grow up wanting to be moms and dads. I can’t imagine how hard it is to be infertile… I’ve suffered my fair share of miscarriages, but at least I was blessed with children afterwards and inbetween those miscarriages.

Fr. Serpa answered a similar question here

His answer is pretty much consonant with Ham1’s response. The couple may have sex in a hospital setting and then the doctor may remove the sperm from the vagina and put it where it is supposed to be. (My emphasis added)
Fr. Vincent Serpa:
The Church does not accept invitro fertilization because it removes human reproduction from the context of the fulfilling of the marriage vows by sexual intercourse. However, the Church does allow an alternative. **If the husband’s sperm is removed from the vagina immediately after intercourse and then surgically united with the egg in the reproductive tract, then conception is still the result of the appropriate marital context. **Obviously, the sexual intercourse has taken place in a hospital setting.

hmm I dont believe i stated anything about same sex marriage
I merely stated that the people are the church and right or wrong and whether change will happen or not we need to voice up.
if nothing else to get a better clarification.

now to throw back at you something that was not mentioned or brought up I will do the same, Lets hypothetically say that a pope decides to use his infallibility powers to redefine a scripture and we know all have to sacrifice our First born on every 10th passover
are you going to sit back and accept such a thing or voice up.
My hopes are you wouldnt sit back and accept it as has been stated in previous threads by others. The churches are not perfect as stated in scripture many times.and we are actually called upon to not be decieved by church or for that matter anything.

Now I could have said thet he used that power to say only every 5th or even 10th married couple that make a given amount of money are allowed to procreate again no question?

I have seen today alone the “go forth and Multiply” used in many different threads, why then is a priest exempt of those “holy” orders?

I could go on and on even using Sundays Homily as a prime example but i wont on this one…

also dont get me wrong I dont question everything nor am against everything some things i pose question to come from
past discussions,or I just need clarity for myself,Family etc.

I do actually retain much of what i read and compare things i either didnt agree with or do not agree with with scriptiure to get a better handle on how/why the interpretation is being made etc…
