Example.

A couple tries to live their lives dedicated to each other in a blessed marriage. The couple refuses to use contraception under any circumstances or participate in any sexual sinful activity whatsoever. They go to Mass together, adoration together, confession monthly, pray together…try to do exactly what the Lord wants them to do in life. This couple cannot have a child no matter how bad they want one…

Example.

A teenage girl who is an atheist, hates the concept of following God or having anything to do with him or his Church. She loves sinful behavior and has sex with multiple partners, each occasion resulting in pregnancy which she happily goes down to the abortion clinic and has them aborted.

Question…

If children are a blessing from God…why is it that the first couple cannot bring children into this world that they would love and cherish and raise according Gods standards, but the second example the girl gets pregnant through terrible sins and murders the very life that God is giving her…

This is not an attempt to question Gods judgment, just a fact of life that troubles me terribly.

Can anybody offer any advice or an answer as to why babies are murdered by people who don’t want them but the ones that want them can’t have them no matter what?

Thanks

The only practical answer I can offer (and this is just my opnion) is, people get married at a later age these days. Most wouldn’t even think about getting married until they’re well into their 30’s. It is much easier for a teenager to become pregnant than a 35 year old woman. If society continues to be promiscuous and reject God’s plan for marriage, etc., this problem will continue to escalate (i.e. teen pregnancies from promiscuity and lack of pregnancy of older women who marry later in life). It is just a sad result of our society’s insistence on going against God’s plan and nature.

By my reckoning it isn’t so much of a somebody does all the right things and someone does all the wrong things that shocks me. It’s the breakdown in morals that the teenager was raised with. There is something to be said about forty fifty years when an unwed mother was a terrible thing, that kept the numbers of these things low. Now there is no value placed on life nor the marriage sacrament, thus people are waiting to be sure they have found mr or ms right, thereby sacrificing their prime conception time. So there is a breakdown in the morals of our young people taking its toll even on the older generation. This is the death of America as far as I’m concerned anyone can and does anything they want with little to no regard for the effect their decisions can make. You marry the wrong person, you divorce them, you get pregnant and you don’t want to be, you abort it, you want to have sex with someone you do it. It’s this way of thinking since the sixties that has crumbled the very fabric of our country. You can’t have the ten commandments in a courthouse, but you can have gay couples adopting kids. It just amazes me.

May God Bless those who do the right things and value life.

Society is becoming less family-oriented and more money-oriented. It’s all about who makes the most money and how well someone builds his or her career. If we’re not careful, society will abort/contracept itself out of existence. Teenagers have abortions and kill babies instead of giving them for adoption. Middle-aged people are too old to have kids by the time they feel they are financially “ready” to have a baby, and IVF doesn’t always work because of fragmented DNA.

A child is not a “punishment,” and people need to stop encouraging their kids to have abortions because they don’t want others to think they’re bad parents letting their kids sleep around, sleep over with boyfriend/girlfriend, etc. But honestly nobody is perfect.

Is it fair that teens don’t have trouble getting pregnant, while older people do? Of course not. But perhaps to go with the times the teens are called to give babies for adoption and older couples are called to adopt the babies and children that need homes.
  1. Why does a teen need an abortion? If she really can’t care for her baby, there is a waiting list of 100,000+ married couples wanting to adopt newborns. She can choose her baby’s family and make sure her son or daughter will be well-cared for.
  2. Why does a middle-aged couple need a baby that looks like them? I have many adopted family members, and I can tell you that blood means nothing. We get along just fine and consider each other family, don’t treat the adopted members any differently, etc. There are SO MANY kids out there that need homes. Why not help one of them instead of making a new one on your own? I firmly believe infertility is a calling to adopt.

God does not work in this manner. God does not “give” the teenage atheist a child while “withholding” a child from the couple.

God allows the natural consequences of our actions. In the case of the girl, indiscriminant sex often results in pregnancy. This is not *God’s *will. God allows us our choices. We have free will, which we can use for good or for evil. A teen who chooses promiscuity and abortion will answer for her actions.

Infertility and diseases are a result of the fallen state of Man, of Original Sin. The couple is not being punished by God. God did not “make” the couple infertile nor is he denying them a child.

The reality is, we will never understand the reason why this happens. We can give theories, but this side of eternity, we will never know.

I had always looked at it as if children were a blessing from God. It would seem that the couple who are trying to please God would be getting blessings from God, and not the ones that are living in sinful behavior.

So we are to look at it really as if there are no consequences for immoral behavior while here on earth in our daily lives, such as those who live together and ignore marriage and live according to the ways of the world.

I understand that are eternal consequences such as the loss of heaven, but it appears as if there are no consequences for immoral lifestyles here on earth, take for example Hugh Hefner…lots of money, big home, longevity of life…and some of our saints who had terrible health and died very poor and horrible deaths.

Maybe it should not be looked at in this way

I had always looked at it as if children were a blessing from God.
All children are a blessing. By that I mean their birth is an occasion for joy. A new life is precious and holds all the possibilities and wonder of the future. By blessing, I do not mean that God has directly intervened giving children to some and not others.
It would seem that the couple who are trying to please God would be getting blessings from God, and not the ones that are living in sinful behavior.
They probably are receiving blessings from God. Just not the ones they expected. There are probably many blessings in their life they are failing to recognize. God does not “bless” sin. He allows it.
So we are to look at it really as if there are no consequences for immoral behavior while here on earth in our daily lives, such as those who live together and ignore marriage and live according to the ways of the world.
There are many consequences for those who choose to live this way, both temporal and enternal. I don’t know where you got the impression otherwise. I certainly did not state there are no consequences. Those who transgress God’s law do have consequences.

Hugh Hefner, in interviews, talks about his lonlinss. Lots of money, surrounded by women, having sex all the time, and lonely. Because these things cannot fill up what is missing-- only God can. And, he’s rejected God. Rejected his divine plan and his will. There certainly ARE consequences in this life. You look at money, big home, and longevity and think that means he has blessings? I think you need to examine what you believe blessings to be. Those aren’t the things God said to expect as members of his Kingdom. The saints that had trials and died young-- they had much joy and happiness. They had holiness and sanctity.

I do think you are looking at it the wrong way.

Perhaps some of Fr. Benedict Groeschel’s books would help you.

Though the point of your answer is good, you have to watch the words you use. Any being that exists exists because God willed their existence.

For you love all things that exist, and detest none of the things that you have made; for you would not have made anything if you had hated it. How would anything have endured, if you had not willed it? Or how would anything not called forth by you have been preserved? You spare all things, for they are yours, O Lord, you who love the living. Wisdom 11:24-26

What could be said is that it was not God’s doing for the girl to go about and fornicate, but it is His will that children should come up from these sexual encounters. It could be either she will give birth to a child and change, or keep killing them and adding to the blood on her hands on judgment day.

As for the couple, it could just not be God’s will that they have children. Maybe they would come closer to God by not having children and adopting other children then they would by having children of their own. God does things for your good, not for your harm. Everything God does He does to give you the greatest good, even if it may not seem like it at the moment.

And yes, sometimes there are punishments for our wrongs in this mortal life. (personally you should count yourself as lucky if this happens, as paying for your sins in purgatory is much…MUCH worse).

I disagree. Any being exists because God holds them in existence. God does not specifically will every animal, plant, or person. If a person is conceived, God certainly wills-- creates- their soul

This is not talking about God willing every single thing that exists, but rather that he willed Creation and he sustains it by an act of his Will. If God did not sustain us from moment to moment, we would simply cease to exist.
What could be said is that it was not God’s doing for the girl to go about and fornicate, but it is His will that children should come up from these sexual encounters.
I disagree. If one uses that line of reasoning one is sayin God willed child abusers and moelsters to have the children they molest and abuse. Or that God willed a rapist to have a child by raping a woman. This is NOT Catholic teaching.

God did not will that children would result from the fornication. God *allowed *them to result as a natural consequence of sexual activity.
It could be either she will give birth to a child and change, or keep killing them and adding to the blood on her hands on judgment day.
Either way, it is a result of God’s permissive will, not his perfect will.
As for the couple, it could just not be God’s will that they have children. Maybe they would come closer to God by not having children and adopting other children then they would by having children of their own. God does things for your good, not for your harm. Everything God does He does to give you the greatest good, even if it may not seem like it at the moment.
God can certainly use their inferility in this way. However, again, there is a difference between his permissive will and his divine will. He *permits *their natural disease or defect to persist. He does not *override *the natural defect with a *miracle *as he did in the case of Sarah or Elizabeht. And, the why of that may be for the reasons you state.

Thanks
Because someone needs to adopt the unwanted babies.

Ultimately, no one can answer your question.
Now, lets get to the point of the matter…why do you ask?

Today’s headlines stirs this topic up again for me…I am just perplexed at the situations in this world if God cares about whats going on.

apnews.myway.com/article/20101228/D9KCMSQ03.html

Homosexuality, sin. Masturbation, sin. Surrogate Mothers for homosexuals, sin. A baby boy, blessing.

Catholic family attending Mass, no sin. Catholic family refusing to use contraception, no sin. Catholic family praying hard, no sin. No babies at all, no blessing.

My wife and I cannot have kids of our own. We are both faithful Catholics, got married young, and dont use contraception.

Is our infertility a curse, yes, is it God’s condemnation or judgement? no. There is no longer any condemnation for those who belong to Christ. However, we live in a fallen world, with disease, and plague and war and sometimes God invites us to suffer with his Son.

We are adopting by the way so we will still get to be parents!

Wow. I guess I have thought up an unanswerable question.
There is nothing in your question that is ‘unanswerable.’ And, your most recent post does not pose a question. You make a statement. In that statement, you persist in a false notion of God’s blessing.

I already answered your question. This article brings nothing new to the conversation. I am sorry you do not want to accept my answer.

Hopefully my idea of the false notions of God’s blessing can be cured.

Psalm 127:3; Children too are a gift from the LORD, the fruit of the womb, a reward.

Genesis 30:1;When Rachel saw that she failed to bear children to Jacob, she became envious of her sister. She said to Jacob, “Give me children or I shall die!”
2; In anger Jacob retorted, “Can I take the place of God, who has denied you the fruit of the womb?”

Genesis 49:25; The God of your father, who helps you, God Almighty, who blesses you, With the blessings of the heavens above, the blessings of the abyss that crouches below, The blessings of breasts and womb,

1 Samuel 1:5; but a double portion to Hannah because he loved her, though the LORD had made her barren.
6; Her rival, to upset her, turned it into a constant reproach to her that the LORD had left her barren.

Isaiah 66:9; Shall I bring a mother to the point of birth, and yet not let her child be born? says the LORD; Or shall I who allow her to conceive, yet close her womb? says your God.

It sure appears from the Old Testament that the writers saw it as a blessing and a curse.

No babies at all, no blessing.
Not true at all.

Just like the vocation to the “Generous single life”, a couple who are called to the vocation of marriage yet cannot have children are called to use the extra time and money they have through lack of children by acts of selfless love in other ways. This can be a tremendous blessing, not only to the couple but to others.

I’m not trying to condemn or insult you but the question shows a very selfish mindset. With a proper understanding of how we fit into the Body of Christ, it need not be that way. We are all members in and of Christ’s body and as such, we are called to build up each other.

*But as it is, there are many parts, yet one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I do not need you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I do not need you.” Indeed, the parts of the body that seem to be weaker are all the more necessary, and those parts of the body that we consider less honorable we surround with greater honor, and our less presentable parts are treated with greater propriety, whereas our more presentable parts do not need this. But God has so constructed the body as to give greater honor to a part that is without it, so that there may be no division in the body, but that the parts may have the same concern for one another. If (one) part suffers, all the parts suffer with it; if one part is honored, all the parts share its joy. Now you are Christ’s body, and individually parts of it. (1 Corinthians 12:20-27)*I find that many Catholics have lost the idea of the redemtive value of suffering for one another for the sake of Christ.

Now I rejoice in my sufferings for your sake, and in my flesh I am filling up what is lacking in the afflictions of Christ on behalf of his body, which is the church, (Colossians 1:24)

Our acts of love merit grace for others and our suffering has redemptive value for others, especially and most effectively when offered to Jesus through the Mediatrix of all Graces, our Blessed Mother Mary. The couple who cannot have children need to look at their situation not just in light of their own desires but in the context of a larger and very real living body (of Christ), the Church.

I’m not trying to say that the couple’s pain at not being able to have children isn’t real or that it should be denied. I’m just saying that it has to be looked at in the context of a greater Christian good, that’s all.

For Catholics, the Body of Christ is not metaphorical or spiritual or symbolic. The Body of Christ is Eucharistic! The Body of Christ is very real and the rubber meets the road in parish life. That is where the married couple who cannot have children should start, centering their life around the Eucharistic table of our Lord’s Body and Blood in then through involvement in their local parish life.
