…because Jesus is the infinite God his sacrifice on the cross of an infinite God can make up for the infinite wrong of our sins. Can anybody elucidate this for me?
Very interesting and deep question! Thanks for sharing, and please consider the following concepts:
First, please consider the following concepts on “the cross taking away the sins of the world.”
Since Heaven can be simply defined as the experience of happiness with an unbreakable peace for all in the Kingdom, any instance in which a body of people is experiencing distress or a disturbance of peace, the body is not in the state of Heaven. Actions that cause distress and a disturbance of peace are always of impatience and meanness. Because of this, Jesus tells us that Charity/Love is Greatest, where Charity/Love is patient and kind, for it is when we are patient and kind that our relationships and self experience happiness without losing any peace. Therefore, simply stated: impatience and meanness are the sins of the world.
And…
When a person is impatient and mean towards another, although they have sinned, when the other is patient, kind, and most especially forgiving of the impatience and meanness in return, s/he will have somewhat removed the cost (distress and disturbance of peace) of the sin from the world. Simply stated: Being patient, kind, and especially forgiving, in the face of impatience and meanness, takes away the sins of the world.
Therefore,…
“Embracing the Cross” can be simply defined as wanting to, as well as being, patient and kind in the face of impatience and meanness for the sake of happiness and an unbreakable peace.
Since Jesus Christ gives us free-will to accept, know, worship, serve, and follow Him, in order for Jesus of Nazareth to be accepted, known, glorified, served, and followed as God by us, we must freely declare Him as God. Therefore, it is when we declare Jesus as God, that we have essentially Christened Him as God.
Since it is in His act of Crucifixion that Jesus gives us the ability to freely Christen Him as God, His act of Crucifixion can be recognized as the first act of His Holy Spirit. And therefore, His Holy Spirit can be recognized as His Christ.
Since the Spirit of Embracing the Cross is His Holy Spirit, when acting in oneness with the Spirit of Embracing the Cross, we are giving physical life to the Holy Spirit, His Christ. Therefore, it can be stated: When a person embraces the cross, it is the Holy Spirit that takes away the sins of the world. And if we embrace the cross daily, we will rejoice in Jesus Christ’s Kingdom sooner than later!
If our sins against God are infinite, then are our good works for Him also infinite? I feel like the answer is no, but why?
Excellent question, my friend! Perhaps you feel like the answer is no for two reasons:
- In the statement: then our good works for Him are also infinite. Since we haven’t experienced eternal living in Heaven, we cannot perceive our individual good works for Him as infinite.
- Because within the declarations presented: God’s good works on the cross make up for our sins. If we do good works for Him, then there is a feeling of elevating our status to being Godly. In attempts to overcome this, please consider the following:
Although Jesus Christ is the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, each person has a unique role in the fulfillment of God. Although we cannot be the Father, the Son, or the Holy Spirit, we can act in oneness with His Holy Spirit. It is our good works for Him that act in oneness with His Holy Spirit. Since it can be recognized that acting in oneness with the Holy Spirit is to be one with the Holy Spirit, and therefore, for that instance, be the Holy Spirit.
Therefore, in conclusion: Since Heaven is for real, our good works for Him are infinite. And…When acting in oneness with the Holy Spirit, one gives all credit for the work to Jesus Christ and His Holy Spirit. Therefore, they are not our good work, instead they are the work of the Holy Spirit. However, since we physically did the work, they are also our works.
