Does anybody know much about Magdalen College in New Hampshire?

I have heard that they are unnecessarily strict.

An acquaintance of mine actually accused them of being Jansenist. I contacted Magdalen College and they refuted it.

So does anybody have some in-depth informatio about them?

Thank you!🙂

I am not speaking about first hand information here…but I did have a friend who went there several years ago. She was a very good Catholic and I know of others who went there that are good Catholics.

There were only two phones in the whole school…payphones. There was a whole lot of structure there. I remember hearing that the male students had to shovel snow in the winter. There seemed to be an emphasis on community life.

The college was very small.

As far as unnecessarily strict, I guess that is a matter of perspective. Personally, I would have gone nuts if I went to school there. I don’t question the authenticy of their Catholicism though.

If I were looking for a Catholic college, I’d pick Franciscan.

My daughter’s friend attends Magdalen. It is true that they are very, very strict. They actually check the tidiness of your dresser drawers. Their phone contact is limited, and I believe they are not allowed to have cell phones. Not that that is bad! But it would be an adjustment for a lot of kids. They do not use e-mail, which is another big adjustment.

It is very, very small and small colleges have their own characteristics. Everyone knows (or thinks they know) everyone else’s business. That is something that I would have a hard time with.

The reason my daughter’s friend attends the college is that her first choice took too long to respond to her application. She finally had to send in a deposit to another school, and her parents wanted her to go to Magdalen. She is a sweetheart and any school would be fortunate to have her!

I am sure it is a good place for some people. It is definitely a college that should be visited first.

Have you looked into Ave Maria?
