Hi,
I posted this in another forum, but was told it may be better served here. I have read several forums/questions that sound like OCD/scrupulous type questions/issues. I too have OCD/scrupulosity, and wanted to provide some resources you may or may not know about:
mission.liguori.org/newsletters/scrupanon.htm
This website is called Scrupulous Anonymous. It’s run by priests, and they do a monthly newsletter. If you have OCD and/or scrupulosity, you will be amazed at how some of these letters sound like they could have been written by you. Also there are at least 2 books I know of:
Understanding Scrupulosity by Fr Thomas Santa–This is the same priest who runs the SA website. Lots of good info on various questions that we tend to deal with.
The Doubting Disease by Joseph Ciarrocchi–Dr. Ciarrocchi is a layperson obviously, but the book is written with a Catholic perspective.
Most important, talk about it! Those of us with this condition tend to feel alone and isolated. Find a regular confessor and stick to his advice. It’s tough, you will make mistakes and “give in” to your obsessions and compulsions, but dust yourself off and keep going. I think there are more of us that have this condition then we realize. Remember the Lord knows exactly what we have and what we are going through, and it’s OK to get help. Also if anyone is interested in starting a support group maybe here just for those of us who have this condition to talk and help each other, that would be great. I’d be willing to try to set this up, I wouldn’t have much time to “run” a group, but would love a place to share and encourage others, and receive encouragement myself. Let me know if interested.
God Bless
Kevin
