Hi Frances,

You may remember speaking with Jenlyn recently in this post:

forums.catholic-questions.org/showpost.php?p=3337757&postcount=16

May we pray that God will bless this group, and through Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and our saints’ intercession, come to flower in the garden of Carmel.

Congratulations on your group becoming a Chapter, Frances. You must be very grateful to have everything concluded.

Carole
Thank you “Joysong” I have joined the forum you mentioned and will invite the others if they wish.

Godbless

Hi , and yes the book is by Fr. Griffin OCD and I could not be more informed. I hope that in a short time I might be able to go back to where I came from originally about 300 Kls from where I live and start another group there since I know that there are a number who have been relating to God this way, but we will see.

Just one question that I would like answered by any person.

There seem to be two veins
1 the “mystical”
2 the “contemplative”
which one is used more these days, why and has there been a place for mystical of late I have not heard?

Thank you again
Godbless
littleone, it’s really one “vein” leading into another. Contemplation, which is the gift from God whereby He introduces the soul more deeply to His presence within the soul, may (and I emphasize may) lead the soul to yet further depths of the intimacy of love which is characterized as mysticism. Mystical touches from God bestow knowledge of Him upon the soul that by any other means than these intuitive gifts could not be known. For instance, He may reveal something of the Mystery of the Most Holy Trinity, or something more the role of Our Savior, or grant a deeper insight into the Blessed Sacrament, etc., etc… All these would be mystical knowledge that only God can reveal. It is by way of contemplation, though, that one may - or may not - be granted these touches of mystical knowledge which arise from unifying love.

Mystical knowledge isn’t necessary for great sanctity, however; the greatest example of this would be our dear St. Therese who, although she was given over completely to the love of God, was not given the mystical experiences that her spiritual forebears, Sts. Teresa of Jesus and John of the Cross experienced and wrote of.

Hi FCEGM I thought I had the book but it seems not however ***how do you think the other books I mentioned would do for us? ***
I must mention here that two of us have in some way followed the “little way” and three of us are very much with OCD but have only just come together. Two of us were going to another group some 150 Kls from our town.
Godbless
littleone, I think you’ll do very well with Fr. Griffin’s “Spiritual Growth Experiences” since he is very thorough in his presentations on the various aspects of life as a Secular Discalced Carmelite.

It’s important that you go at this slowly, step by step and not get into reading St. John of the Cross, for instance, before you all have a familarity with the history of the Order, how to discern a vocation to it, what the vocation entails, etc., etc… As the members’ understanding grows and you see they are seeking to live in obedience to the Constitutions and local Statues, then you can get into thorough studies of the works of the Founders, St. Teresa and St. John of the Cross, and then of St. Therese and others Saints and Blesseds, such as Bl. Elizabeth of the Trinity.

I highly recommend this article for those you’ve interested in the O.C.D.S.:

Also, this website has lots of excellent material that will be helpful in your Aspirancy and Formation programs:

God bless you in your efforts! 🙂

Hi FCEGM, thanks for the info , I have been into both sources and found them to be all I could want.
I think that the profile of an OCD by P. Aloysius Deeney, OCD basically covers much for us at present. However don’t any of you forget to write in because there is always more to be added, or taken in.
So!

In the OCD group of Carmelite’s third order,
I wonder if some persons could inform me about how the “little way” of St Therese works.

I know that St John of the cross and St Terese were both mystical where St Therese (little flower) was more contemplative.
So what of the “little way” in OCD and Carmelites

Godbless
Hi all I can now tell you that the first night was as such.
The presbytery was over booked,
The person I was to get in touch with who has been in the other group was not to be found.
The priest never came.
There was only one other person and she and I had the meeting at my place.
How about that. I am not discouraged but elated that we are on the road.

Joysong I have found a lot of information on the Carmelite www pages, of which I have much information about 60 pages, and both the other woman and I have been (some 30 years ago) been touched by God by a book called “A retreat with St Therese” and both relate OCD in the little way which puts us both on the same track.
Although my wife is a Josephite she enjoys the evening and knows the basics of Carmelite life.
So that in mind
Godbless.

I have read most of the posts with regard to this thread…would have read them All but I have trouble sitting too long because of my back problems. Which brings me to the point of this Post…
I AM IN THE BRONX, NEW YORK, and DIS-ABLED. I Feel Called on a truly deep level to enter the OCDS Carmelites, but as a dis-abled person, I am having trouble finding the right contact for a New York Community. The replies I have so far received have all come from Provinces outside of my area. I know there must be a province person for my region somewhere. And, I have heard of a Statute that makes provisions for a Dis-Abled person to become an Isolate member. If ANYONE can assist me, Wow, would I appreciate it! Thank you, and thank you for letting me ask this on this thread. God Bless you ALL!

It was my pleasure, Theresa. 🙂 Thank you for you prayers! - you will be in mine. I hope to hear good news from you.

Fr. Paul Fohlin and Fr Michael Griffin, were the spiritual assistants to my OCDS group.

In fact, Fr. Paul was my formation director, when I fist joined Carmel, at St. Joseph’s Monastery at the Common, in Peterborough NH. Unfortunately, the OCD order sold that property and it burned down a few years later.

Fr. Michael Griffin actually left the Carmelites and became a diocesan priest, before he passed away.

In Carmel

i AM SO THRILLED FOR YOU AND i BELIEVE THAT EVEN THOUGH IT IS A STRONG CALLING, PERSONS IN YOUR SITUATION ARE PROBABLY IN A BETTER POSITION THAN I.

I know that the OCD in New Zealand that I was in contact with used to write over to France every month. It was very hard for me since the letter I would send would have to go to the provincial and then to a person who would try to decipher our writing into how the French understood it.
I do not have contact with them at present but if you are able to gain entry into the OCD then I will send an address if I am able to get it.
Don’t give up
Godbless.

What is the province for the Chicago area? Is it the Eastern or Central province, and who should I contact? Thanks.

God Bless

Hi, Jim
Fr. Paul e-mailed me this morning…says he cannot help me. They don’t accept Isolate Members anymore. But, I Did hear from a community in a close enough area to me that will accept me IF I can get well enough to get to the Meeings. So, now it is up to Our Dear Lord. If He wills it, it will be done!! I will do all I can to make it happen, and trust in Jesus for the rest.

Thank you again, Jim! God Bless you!
Theresa

Just Seeing Your Post in reply to mine…sorry I didn’t see it earlier. I would have answered you faster. Thanks for your encouragement! I just said to Jim that I made contact with a Community in BRONXVILLE, NEW YORK, not too far away from me! If I can get well enough to drive the distance, I just might get in! This gives me a re-newed sense of hope!
Write when you can, Little One. Your Intentions are in my Prayers!

God Bless…THERESA

pureDzire,
correct, OCDS no longer accepts isolated members.

My wife and myself are now “inactive,” members, since our community was disbanded several years ago.

Hi pureDzire, as I have written to others some people write straight to the Carmelites in the same Provence of St Therese and about three times per year they get a letter back. This may help if I can get the address.
Keep strong, I have just found the daily prayers and am memorizing them and putting these two prayers with them.

Oh my God I adore You
I believe, I hope and I love You and I beg pardon for those who do not believe hope and adore You.

The other with it is
Oh most Holy Trinity the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit I adore you profoundly, and I offer You the most precious, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ present in all tabernacle throughout the world for the outrages, sacrileges, and indifferences against Your most Sacred Heart, the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the holy souls in purgatory.

This may help you!

Godbless

THANK YOU , Little One, for those 2 simple but so beautiful prayers! And, for Your Prayers for me! How wonderful to meet God in people such as yourself! God Bless You! theresa

Theresa, is that after St Therese, I wonder, maybe even think it is.
She is a most beautiful sister of mine and I love her so dearly, one who Jesus has designed to help me in so many ways. I am designed to live and follow her little way, not seeking riches putting away my educated learning, giving even though…, living as the little bird Therese mentions, seeking to be the least, littlest, the forgotten person. But realising that i am not ever forgotten for Jesus could never forget His children, as He tells us in HIs word.

Oh it is when I write such that my heart goes on and on but I feel it so taking over my whole being. I donot apologise but ask God to poor that same love into your being, so that you feel it touching your toes as you read this. Your even closing your eyes and knowing Jesus whole spirit soaking into you filling your heart, soul mind and being.
This prayer I pray for those who ask for this. Most holy and anointed Son of the Living God, of the most Holy Trinity of Love.

Godbless.
