I recently saw this documentary on netflix instant about The Jesuits and while it was long something struck me at the end one Englishman said that the Jesuits have strained from their original conception and drifting leftward, would you consider this true?

The English are quick to slice up any catholic organization. I would not consider them an objective source of information on catholic matters. Granted, there may be a few that are orthodox, but on average, this country is in dire straits.

Back to the Jesuits, I have been puzzled by this group for a while. I watched a movie called The Black Robe that was fantastic. I recently started reading about the founder - Saint Ignatius of Loyola and am astounded. This guy was/is terrific.

I recently bumped into a new order called Miles Christi, that is based on Ignatian spirituality and discipline. This is the best group I have found to date for formation and spiritual direction.

OK then, what is there to question. I have no direct evidence but some Jesuits have supported liberation theology in south america - so I am told. I know enough about this to state this is support of socialism if not direct communism. This is against church teaching. If true, this is a case where some jesuits have strayed.

There are other cases I am sure. I now believe all orders have their problems, some more than others, and at times worse than others. This group deserves some credit though since they were created to battle the reformation, or revolution against the catholic church. This is a tough assignment.

I have met some at our parish mission that were not so great. I watch Father Mitch Pacwa on EWTN when I can - he is fantastic.

In summary, it is a mixed bag. Most of the world is this way. I recommend giving them some slack and helping them when you can.

I’m a beneficiary of a Jesuit post secondary education (Bachelors’ in Fine Arts from Canisius College in Buffalo, New York.) While all of my professors were not Jesuits, I had many who were. I have nothing but abject admiration for their intellectual tradition. I have not followed their political leanings closely.

I think that the Jesuits, just like any other group in society,
will have a small percentage of members who fit into one or the other extreme,
and most find that happy sense of balance!😉

Ignatian spirituality has helped me to really live my faith.
I have completed the 19th Annotation of the Spiritual Execises and the experiences have changed my life,
so much so that I am discerning if I should become a certified retreat/spiritual director.😃

Inigo’s conversion story and his personal jouney to the priesthood and to the forming of the Society of Jesus is a facinating story,
and one that I could relate to. His use of imagery and imagination,
and the tools he provides for the spiritual journey in his *Exercises *are invaluable tools for anyone, who like me,
finds the gift of imagination to be a very powerful prayer tool.🙂

If you are interested in the Spiritual Exercises, I suggest you check out this blog.
I used this last year for Lent and I found it to be very well done.
It helped to enhance my Lenten journey and
I am looking forward to using it again this year.

Peace be with you on your journey.🙂
