I don’t like my inlaws and they don’t like me for various reasons I don’t want to get into. They are visiting them now with my family and it is driving me crazy. The parents are in their 70’s and as someone that lost their parents when they were in their 40’s I believe it is the right thing to do. It is tearing me up inside. It is like they are sleeping and partying with the enemy. Should I just get over it or do something else. I don’t want to divorce my wife nor have her divorce herself from her parents that will not be hear forever. Grrrrrr! It is hard to be a Christian sometimes.

You didn’t give detail about the reason why you don’t get along with your in-laws. If I understood you correctly you wrote that think this visit with your wife and kids with her parents is the right thing. Perhaps you are missing your wife and kids–and your own parents–right now, making the dislike for your in-laws more intense? Just a thought. Maybe I’m just projecting based on my own situation. I don’t have the best relations with my MIL (not terrible, but not great) and, like you, my own parents are both deceased. Sometimes visits with my husband’s parents remind me that I can’t visit my parents.

My DH parents (dad and step-mom) pretty much ignore us; we can go six months or more before we hear from them.🤷 But, when we are together I just try to remember that this visit doesn’t have anything to do with me, it is for my children so that they can have some sort of relationship, however flimsy, with their grandparents. So, maybe remembering that this uncomfortable time is for your children and will make them happy. Oh, yes, also offer it up to Christ!

Oh Lord!! Please don’t remind me too often about in-laws. In just over a year my daughter is getting married. So I’ll be an in-law. I just keep praying that I don’t get “evil mother-in-law syndrom.”

Hmm, I have three boys, nowhere near getting married (oldest is 12) and I am already worrying about being a good MIL! I am so used to being the “only” girl in their lives.😦

Decide to like them.
Yea I tried that. I really tried to be a awesome son in law. Helped them every chance I could. They even lived with us after hurricane Katrina for about a month. I thought finally I was accepted! That was shattered a few years latter. Now I realize they will never accept me. I don’t make enough money to support them and that is really all they care about.

I can’t relate b/c I lost my MIL whom I loved, and I still have a great FIL…but I think it’s kind of hard to give advice on this b/c you don’t want to go into the reasons they don’t like you. That’s your business, of course, and none of ours, and I’m not asking you to, but if they don’t like you (JUST for example) b/c they think you’re a control freak who knocks around their daugther, then I think that might change our perspective. I mean, why is it driving you so crazy? If you sig line is really what you believe, then you do have to trust in Jesus all the time…way easier said than done, I know, but in the end, you’ll have to just trust that God’s got this covered.
