I have read before that there are tortures like hanging the accused with one leg on a tree or boil the accused in saliva to death. Are they true? I read somewhere else that there’s only 3 types of torture. Which tortures are real?

Did you watch too many hollywood movies?

The methods of torture used in medieval times were gruesome and applied with precision.
If a prisoner died while being tortured before spilling the beans, the torturer himself could be put to death.
This was done by secular people, the Church had no part in it except may be pray for the poor soul that found himself in that predicament.

The inquisition was much more benign when compared to the secular justice and many preferred to be interrogated by them as they had a much better chance to come out alive.

I have seen it claimed that those accused of a secular crime would sometimes blaspheme so they could get tried in an inquisition setting instead. True?

The Church did not torture anyone, so the Church had no rules regarding torture. Whatever happened was according to the laws of the country where it took place.

The Malleus Maleficarum become indispensable authority for the inquisition. Written in 1486 by two Dominican friars it became like a handbook for the Church on whichcraft and dealt with their detection, trial and punishment.:sad_yes:
