Hello

I’d like to find any good web (non catholic if possible) with info about which things are true and which ones are false about the Inquisition.

I ask specially for non-catholic webs not because I don’t believe catholic ones will not show the truth, that’s not the case, I just want to show some stubborn friends that it’s not we catholics just twist the history but even non catholics confirm what we claim.

As you can see it’s just an issua abouth truth. I’m a bit tireb of listening some stupidities (which I found to be false) and my documentation being rejected because they are “catholic sources” and therefore non trustworthy.

Thanks for your help 🙂

I recommend getting a book by a solid historian. One I recommend is
Edward Peters INQUISTION (1988) which shows not only historical facts of the Inquistion(s) but also the history of Propaganda literature that gave rise to the myth. Peters goes into a lot of detail of recent historical research on primary records of various inquistions. There’s another one by a Jewish Historian on Spanish Inquistion but I do not remember the title and author. There is also a recent very good documentary by the BBC which aired on EWTN but is hard to obtain I’ve been told.

Hi

Thanks for your help. The only problem I have with these books is that I live in Spain. I can understand very well english, but… How do I obtain these books?

I have never bought anything from outside my country… :S

I checked the link you will have to scroll down to the one titled:

** Shifting sands of argument**

Professor Henry Kamen (a Jew) has written a book on the Inquisition. Just put his name in Google and the title of the book should come up. Fr Paul Vota has written a book called “Why Apologise For the Spanish Inquisition”. You can listen to him on an archived Catholic Answers Radio programme. 26 July 2001

Living in Australia I too have a problem purchasing books; Americans don’t realise how lucky they are. The books are so cheap and so easily available. Why don’t you first start with a good Catholic bookshop in your closest
big city. They may have the book you are looking for in Spanish. Failing that go to www.amazon.com/books and search for the books you want.

The Inquisition was a legal procedure. All of the Spanish Inquisition records are in Spain, I’m not sure where. Ask a Faithful Bishop, he will probably know where they are. The added bonus, for you, is that they are written in Spanish. 🙂

Don’t be apologetic about books refuting the Inquisition being written by Catholics. If someone said something bad about your great great grandfather, who is more interested in finding our the truth - a member of the family or a stranger? Because myths about the Inquisition are used to cast doubts on the Catholic Church of course Catholics are going to come to the defense of the Bride of Christ.

I believe the BBC did a very accurate piece on the Inquisition. The gist of the piece is that the perception of the Inquisition is a result of a successful anti-Catholic propoganda campaign. If the BBC is defending the Inquisition, then you know it has to be the truth.

Scott_Lafrance:
There is always this documentary to capture the real flavor of the Inquisition.
Don’t forget this one.

😃

(Sadly, it’s about as accurate a version as some that I’ve heard.)

There is interesting thought:
…the persecution of the heretics did not proceed from the nature of the Catholicism , but from the political and mental attitude of the Middle Ages. ( The German Theologian- Karl Adam.)
