Ok, my questions is simple enough.
it’s about european inquisition (especially the spanish inquisition).

Question:
1.When the inquisition began, is there any papal bull about these inquisition?
2.What is the main task of Inquisitor? and who they are? (clergyman or laymen)
3.Who decide the “heretics” guilt or innocence? the local goverment court or Church?
3.Who gave the penalties for the “heretics”? it is goverment or Church?
4.What kind of punishment they receive? Physical or just Excommunication?
5.What is the parameter of the “heretics” category? it is because science, or witchcraft? or is there anything else?

that’s all. I just can’t understand why this “incident” happened?

Thanks!

Your question is actually somewhat complicated.

The Inquisition was related to the 800 year war in Spain. [You knew about that, right?] [From AD 711 until AD1492.]

Anyway, there were two sets of Crusades: one set to the Holy Land and one set to Spain [You knew about that, right?]

Anyway, because this topic has been discussed so much, someone started a thread, if it has not been erased about books on the Crusades. Which is a good place to get started.

Try doing a search for that.

That over-emphasized bit is where you need to start your research. If you are only interested in the Spanish Inq., learn the history of Spain about 50years to either side of the Inquisition.

Once you understand why it happened, then you will digest properly what actually happened.

Exactly, if you don’t understand why it happened learning more about what happened isn’t going to help you, you need to learn what happened before hand that led to it.

With the Spanish Inquisition is was a lot to do with the fact that the Spanish had been at war for their very survival for centuries and they kept been betrayed by traitors masquerading as Catholics. The inquisition in Spain was essentially a trial for treason to root out spies and traitors.

Now you might feel people shouldn’t be punished for treason, but that is a very modern opinion, and one which would be detrimental to the common good in my view.
