WOW - I did not know this. I was confirmed the year after making my first communion which - many years later - is still the practice in our Diocese.Canon Law and the Catechism both call Confirmation the second sacrament of initiation and Communion as the third and last. It’s certainly what converts would experience and so would Catholic children in a growing number of dioceses.
I wonder if the confusion in this order came about when the Pope Pius X lowered the age of first communion from about 14 yo to about 8 yo.
