I am going through the worst period of my entire life. I thought I had done that a couple of years ago when I lost a son in his second trimester. I was wrong. What I am going through now is worse.

I prayed for the first time in YEARS, and had full faith that Jesus would answer me. He didn’t. And the further into this situation I get, I just see no end. I am broken and devistated. I don’t know what to do.

I’m not Cathloic (don’t really know what I am, truth be told), so some of your rituals aren’t available to me. What do I do? What CAN I do?? Anything? I’m so desparate for this period of my life to end. It seems to have started a couple of years ago, and every time I think it can’t get any worse, it does. I’m so lost. Can someone please help me? Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

continue praying, pray as if everything depended on it as indeed it does. by this I mean, your response to Christ’s answers to your prayers–and he always answers–depends on your prayer life. It is prayer that disposes you to hear those answers, and to realize what they are telling you. It is also prayer that disposes you to make changes in your life in areas that have, to some extent, influenced the conditions that may have contributed to some of your “bad luck.” There is no such thing as luck of course. Things happen because it is the nature of the world, that babies die prematurely, that people get sick, that people do cruel malicious things to innocent people, that natural disasters occur, etc.

but to a degree we ourselves contribute to some bad luck. I am subject to hurricane damage because I live in a hurricane zone. In Ohio that was not a problem–but blizzards, flooding and tornados were. I have been through bad financial periods. Some of it was due to circumstances beyond my control: actions of other people, the economy, but some was my bad choices.

Continue praying and do not stop, and ask specifically to see Christ’s purpose for your life in this time of trial. You may never fully understand it, but there will come a time when you realize that although he did not will bad things for you, he wants to use these things as a means for grace, for your salvation, for your good. keep praying, because prayer is above all conformation of mind, heart, intellect and will to God, and to His will. keep praying.

and realize that when bad things happen, often it is not our fault at all, because we simply are not in control of our world and our circumstances, we can control micro issues–where to live, what to eat, but only to an extent. 90% of what happens is entirely beyond our control. that is what hurts especially when parents have to see bad things happen to their children, knowing they cannot stop it. I have come to think that is one of the meanings of the story of Abraham and Isaac, Hannah and Samuel, Mary and Jesus, that parents must be willing to give their child back to God, for whatever purpose God has for that child. keep praying, especially prayer with scripture. one way Catholics do this is with the rosary, another way is lectio divina, simply reading a passage and listening to the Word speak to you. pray in whatever tradition you were raised, but keep praying.

AMEN PUZZLEANNIE!

O Sovereign Master, Lord our God, Who was born of the all-pure Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, and as an infant was laid in a manger: do You Yourself, according to Your great mercy, have regard for this Your servant Cellopane who has miscarried that which was conceived in her. Heal her suffering, granting to her, O Loving Lord, health and strength of body, mind, and soul. Guard her with a shining Angel from every assault of sickness and weakness and all inward torment. You who accept the innocence of infancy in Your Kingdom, comfort the mind of Your servant and bring her peace. Amen

Wisdom 4:
7 But the just man, though he die early, shall be at rest. 8 For the age that is honorable comes not with the passing of time, nor can it be measured in terms of years. 9 Rather, understanding is the hoary crown for men, and an unsullied life, the attainment of old age. 10 2 He who pleased God was loved; he who lived among sinners was transported-- 11 Snatched away, lest wickedness pervert his mind or deceit beguile his soul; 12 For the witchery of paltry things obscures what is right and the whirl of desire transforms the innocent mind. 13 Having become perfect in a short while, he reached the fullness of a long career; 14 for his soul was pleasing to the LORD, therefore he sped him out of the midst of wickedness. But the people saw and did not understand, nor did they take this into account. 15 3 16 Yes, the just man dead condemns the sinful who live, and youth swiftly completed condemns the many years of the wicked man grown old. 17 For they see the death of the wise man and do not understand what the LORD intended for him, or why he made him secure.

For you Cellophane Lord, she does not know what to ask of You. You know better than Cellephane what her needs are. You love her more than she knows how to love. Help her to see clearly her real needs which she does not see. In the generosity of your mercy and grace open her heart in a greater way to You. Heal her Jesus as she examines and realizes faults and sins. Grant that she puts all trust in You, for Lord really if she were not trusting you, she would not be here. In your mercy Lord, grant no other desire than to live completely in your to fulfill Your will. For Lord your first Words spoken to your Apostles after your Resurrection were, ‘be at peace.’ Lord your peace trancends all worldly understanding, I ask that you let the peace of your life giving Holy Spirit fall on her this day in a new and deeper way. Teach her how to pray. Pray in her. Amen.
