I am a guy and just purchased the Insanity Workout DVD’s. I wanted to know if any of you have used these dvd’s and how it worked for you. God Bless.

I have not, but I have no doubt that they work. Anytime one exercises muscles and burns calories in excess of what they take in, no matter how it’s done, they become more fit.

The question you have to ask, though, is:

Once a person gets in shape, which admittedly takes more time, discomfort and effort than staying in shape, is one willing to continue to put in the time to maintain that level of fitness?

As well, you see the people on the comercial that look really fit and lean. However, along the same lines the question needs to be asked, how much intensity does one have to put in to maintain that lean-ness? Some people, once in shape, can do it with relatively less effort thatn others who probably must continue the “insanity” in order to stay that lean.

Question is…is it worth it? They’re fairly straightforward in the commercial as to the effort it takes to get in shape…but can Joe Average person continue to devote the time and effort to stay in that kind of shape for very long?

High intensity workouts do work, but the body needs rest. This program wasn’t designed, as I understand it, for continuous use. Once in shape, you have to back off or face the inevitable injury from overwork.

Maybe you can give us updates on how it works for you?

Hahaha

I bought the Insanity DVD’s one day that I was home from work very sick and feverishly watching infomercials.

I discovered that I am probably not fit enough to do these workouts. That should have been obvious, but like I said fever + Robitussin = not my highest order thinking.

That was an expensive impulse. I proved to myself that I really cannot afford sick days.

I am going to give it another try starting this summer.

I have them, and enjoy doing them, but for me, there’s not enough resistance work. So, the best thing for me is to use them 3 times a week and do weightlifting and running or cycling 3 days a week. I like the lifting workouts in P90x, so I do those three days a week and Insanity 3 days a week. I think that maybe for a month or so this summer I’ll just do Insanity and cycling to get a bit leaner, but I’m afraid that too long of a time of doing just Insanity would cause some to lose muscle mass.

I haven’t, but would highly recommend picking up jogging. I started about 2 years ago, after I told myself when I got out of the Army, I would never run again. It took awhile, but found it a great way to spend quiet time with myself thinking, and it got easier, but it is never easy. Its actually kinda addictive. My wife and I look forward to our together runs on Sat and Sun morning. Me personally, find it hard to doing those workout dvd’s. The added bonus, is getting to admire God’s beautiful earth while out, whether rain or shine, snow or sleet, especially in the early morning. Whatever you do, stick with it, and reap the rewards, both physically and mentally. Good luck, God bless…

Unless you have an ipod video! I wonder: If you had the ipod or something similar, could you go outside and do the workout? Run for real, instead of in place? Is the workout DVD made so you have to *watch *it to know what to do? or can you just hear and know what to do (especially once you get the hang of the videos)?
I’m sure they have it already included, but in case they don’t, make sure to stretch! It’ll help you get into shape a whole lot quicker! The 10 minutes it takes to stretch is well worth the enhanced recovery time.
I also considered the insanity DVDs but I said to myself: “First, get back into the same routine you’ve always done; get back into shape like you used to be. If you can maintain that same motivation, then go out and buy an expensive workout system.”
In any case, from what I’ve seen in the commercials, this workout must work. Physics is on its side! It takes energy to move the body like they ask you!

I don’t know much about ‘insanity workouts’, but my advice to you is to select or create some sort of exercise program you can stick with over the long haul. Don’t just start up some intense program only to quit a month or two later. Or stop after you lost weight since then you may end up back where you started.

Getting fit and staying healthy requires continuous effort. It is not something that can be accomplished with a quick fix diet, scam diet pills, or temporary fad workouts. There are definitely good workout tapes, videos, and other programs out there. Just make sure it is something you like and will do long term.

Good luck.
