Insect legs and the Bible !

Only one Bible and a truly Catholic one has the right answer as to how many legs insects have.According to all the others it seems God who created them and supposedly authored Bibles does not seem to know - any comments by observation of insects - twinc
 
First of all, God didn’t author the Bible, men did, inspired by the Truth. Secondly, we shouldn’t look to the Bible to provide us with scientific truths. Thirdly, I do not understand what you are talking about.

For those of us who do not know what you are talking about, give us a hint—Which book of the bible would we be most likely to find the answer?
 
Lev. 11:20-3 All fowls that creep, going upon all four, shall be an abomination unto you. Yet these may ye eat of every flying creeping thing that goeth upon all four, which have legs above their feet, to leap withal upon the earth; even these of them ye may eat; the locust after his kind, and the bald locust after his kind, and the beetle after his kind, and the grasshopper after his kind. Insects have six feet not four. But one should never let accuracy interfere with truth.
 
Sheesh. Maybe the original writers thought some of the ‘legs’ were arms.

You know, we speak of the sun ‘rising’ and setting. Of course, the sun does not actually DO that. . .but people understand what is meant. It is possible that 200 years from now, in a wildly ‘scientific’ world, the whole phrase will be expunged from our vocabulary and people will speak ONLY of the 'earth’s rotation and nothing about a sun ‘rise’ or ‘set’.

So then they’ll read these ‘old’ sayings and go, "Sheesh, what ignorant twits! Didn’t they KNOW the sun doesn’t ‘rise’ or set’?’

Just because we don’t know whatever ‘idiom’ or understanding that a writer had in say 1500 BC when this work was being ‘written’ doesn’t mean that “God” didn’t know what He was talking about.

But hey, don’t let faith interfere with insistence on only accepting what you can see, hear, taste, smell and touch and know by ‘science’. We could never make any kind of scientific breakthrough after all if we thought of ‘crazy’ things like a huge metal craft weighing thousands of pounds being able to FLY through the air.

I agree, catholics do not believe that God is the author of the bible - an author is the one that had the original thoughts, the bible does NOT contain God’s thoughts so yes, PapaTX is right GOD IS NOT THE AUTHOR OF THE BIBLE!

Care to give us some ‘proof’ of your assertions? Any of them?

Catholics DO believe God is the author of the Bible.
The Bible does contain God’s words --his Written Word.

It would be nice if you actually wanted to discuss what Catholics really teach and not some ‘misconception’ of what you THINK they teach and present as ‘truth’ so you can ‘knock it down’. (That’s called a strawman argument and it’s a logical fallacy.)
