Inside the Pregnancy Center: Not Manipulation, but Unconditional Love

I can absolutely attest to this. I found myself pregnant rather unexpectedly a few weeks ago, and I went to a crisis pregnancy center for help. The staff was discreet, friendly, and overwhelmingly supportive. They offered to give me information on any option I wanted, but since I knew abortion and adoption were not for me, I only wanted information on how to keep myself healthy during pregnancy and how to apply for programs like Medicaid and WIC.

After comforting me while I cried and reassuring me that God has a plan for me, my fiancé, and our unborn baby, two staff members asked it they could pray with me. They asked me to write down my name and my intentions so they could continue to pray for me.

Then they sent me home with information about the free parenting classes, birthing classes, and discounted and free baby products (like car seats and cribs) they offer. They gave me a thick envelope full of charts and pictures and useful information about what’s going on with my body and the baby’s body, lists of foods to avoid, and a whole list of free clinics in the area in case some emergency should arise between the time I applied to Medicaid and when I actually got it.

The staff at the pregnancy center really showed me nothing but love, acceptance, and encouragement. I have heard that some pregnancy centers can be toxic but that was not my experience at all. When I am out of the woods with this baby, I really want to dedicate my time to causes like this one.
