Institution of Confirmation?

Hi!

I was wondering: Where is the Sacrament of Confirmation instituted by Jesus?

Obviously Confirmation is Scriptural, Pentecost just screams of it and there are explicit references to it in Acts and in Hebrews.

But where was it instituted?

With all the other Sacraments, I can see it. The Eucharist at the Last Supper of course, Holy Orders at the last supper too, Matrimony already around and Christ spoke of it, Baptism in Matthew 28:19, Confession in John 20, even Anointing of the Sick is instituted implicitly in Mark 6:13.

But where was Confirmation instituted by Jesus? I just can’t seem to find it.

The early Christians always conferred the Holy Spirit with the Sacrament of Baptism. My theory is that Jesus instituted this sacrament in Matthew 28:19 when He said to baptize “in the name…of the Holy Spirit,” because being “baptized in the Holy Spirit” is what the Bible always calls Pentecost and subsequent Confirmations.

The old Baltimore Catechism #3 cites John 7:38-39, apparently because it is addressed to the public, not the Apostles.

And therefore we must say that Christ instituted this sacrament not by bestowing, but by promising it, according to John 16:7: “If I go not, the Paraclete will not come to you, but if I go, I will send Him to you.” And this was because in this sacrament the fulness of the Holy Ghost is bestowed, which was not to be given before Christ’s Resurrection and Ascension; according to John 7:39: “As yet the Spirit was not given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.”
