How should the churches convene instructional masses? Should they be online or in person? How do we encourage people to understand the mass if they weren’t properly catcheized? Should they be offered by individual parishes or simply at a cathedral or the diocese level?

An instructional mass seems important for people to understand the mass. Some people didn’t learn about the mass in CCD or RCIA or never went on a retreat to reinforce what they learned in CCD or RCIA. I think it’s good for people to understand why they’re Catholic.

Just an idea.

Both. Some people can have their answers found online if they are interested In Catholicism and are considering becoming Catholic.

It’s also good to have them at mass to refresh people’s understanding.

Our parish does them every year.

This is a good idea. I wish our parish had these. I see little things that should not or should be happening. For instance, many kneel on their left knee instead of their right when reverencing Jesus. Either that, or they are trying to break a land speed record for reverencing. Many do not bow before receiving the Body or, more frequently, the Precious Blood during communion. Too many people seem to leave right after taking communion or before the deacon has declared that Mass has ended. It’s little things like that. So, a reminder course would be good. Even a video on the parish website would be nice.

Jvickers, you bring up a lot of great points. When I am with my wife, we stay all the way thru the last song, but when I’m alone (kinda of like at the 730AM mass), I leave when the priest passes our pew and I find either acceptable. My wife thinks you have to stay to the final song or that you’re leaving early.

I also think when someone comes in late, they should genuflect and do the sign of the cross, both in respect and as an apology towards God not towards the Church. They can also do it slowly because they’re not in anyone’s way; when people leave the mass, it can be hard to give it time to genuflect as you can easily be in someone else’s way but even when people come into mass, sometimes people crowd into pews which makes it difficult to give the time to genuflecting.

I volunteered as lector because I had a hard time getting to church on time and this was something I really enjoy doing. And this has really helped me get to church consistently on time. Though I could get into the word more often to give it more time each and every day.
