Insult heaped upon insult. Whats yours?

I am interested to hear if anyone of any denomination has ever been insulted about their beliefs by another denomination?

Well I’ll exclude this board since I’ve been insulted quite a bit here and if I listed them could fill several pages…

I was insulted by a Catholic Priest when I went there to consider converting and go for the marriage prep at his parish. He also told me the man who baptized me was “going to hell.” I considered that a personal insult as well.

I get insulted by Calvinists quite a bit too. Generally get called a Pelagian or told I’m not really saved or that I ‘think God is a liar’.

Atheists I know also make fun of me. Their insults tend to focus on their perception of my “lack of intelligence” and “blind faith.” One told me I wasn’t’ fit to raise children cause I’m sure to try and “brainwash them”.

I have been insulted and even spit upon for being a Catholic and a priest. I have been cursed and told I was going to hell. Profane gestures made at me. I have been stopped on the street and berated for various Catholic teachings or alleged teachings. Some of this was done by Protestant clergy. I have received anonymous letters at my rectory. My car has been tracted. Local churches have held seminars on how evil Catholics are. The media and editorial pages have attacked us. Toss in graffiti and vandalism. I should write a book.

I have the utmost respect for Catholic priests. I’m not sure why, I’ve never actually known one in person, I’ve only ever met two…but I find them, or at least the ideas that I have of them, to be genuinely good and very interesting people.

I and a Wiccan at work were at odds with each other like crazy, until our boss couldnt stand it and told us to go sit on a bench outside and not come back until it was solved. We both told each other what we believed, then decided what was common. And became great friends.

The strangest attack was by a friend, we all had left the Terminator show at Universal, I asked hey what did you think? And I had a 15 min lecture at loud volume ( with bystanders dashing by fast cowering) about how time travel was bunk and what did Christians think they were trying to pull, it couldnt happen, never gonna on and on.

Then he dropped it and have never spoken about it again. (hes atheist btw in a big way.)

OUTSPOKEN Catholics, that insisted on refering to Protestants not only with a lower case “p”

It depends if Protestant [or for that matter Catholic] is being used as a noun or an adjective. I have often used ‘protestant’ as a descripter and Protestant as a noun. Both are correct when used in context. In this forum I have often used ‘catholic’ too!

On hearing I was a Christian and in particular Catholic, I received a little book from a manager of an organisation where I do voluntary work. He gave it to me and told me ‘not to look at it until I get home’. I understand he is Plymouth Brethren.

When I opened it, it was full from cover to cover of insults and derogatory derisory language insult heaped upon insult, about the Catholic Faith.

It was also full of inaccuracies, it mis-quoted catholics as ‘worshipping’ the Virgin Mary, Statues etc.It was so insultling that I would not repeat here it’s content.

I have received similar in the past by various sects, though none as blatantly offensive. I have never known the catholic church to insult anyone’s beliefs which differ from her own.

It appears they do not produce little books to give to aethiests. Surely it is better to be catholic than aethiest?

I am interested to hear from anyone Protestant, Catholic or Aethiest what their stories are of similar events.

Well my church are forever under constant attack by other churches. It goes as huge as a broadcasted on newspaper. The most ridiculous one happened last yr somewhere near Christmas. A imposter used our church name to collect offering from others (really going door to door to ask for it). The smaller personal attack i gotten was my ex boss who mentioned to me that she sort of get alittle disturb when her brother in law turn her down to attend her protestant church, simply becoz her brother in law mentioned that my Snr Pastor wife (whom happened to be a singer) dressing was not appropriate…blar…blar…Another one came from a catholic guy who simply told me off that he does not want to be my frez becoz i am a protestant…haha…

Some guy at Easter brunch yesterday made a comment about thanking God he didn’t have to go to a Catholic Church while laughing and gloating. Way to celebrate the Lord’s ressurection eh?
