Intelligent life in outer space?

I think the Other Intelligent Life theories came from people who had no relationship to the One True God.
Really? You can judge the state of people’s spiritual lives by whether they agree with you on such a non-essential, speculative question?

I would have voted, but the available answers are polarized.

I wouldn’t rule the possibility of life out, but I also doubt we will find it in my lifetime.

when there’s intelligent life on earth, I’ll believe there’s intelligent life in outer space.
Yes, “Beam me up, Scottie!” You have a good point. Do you know of a book called *The Yugas: Keys to Understanding Our Hidden Past, Emerging Present and Future Enlightenment * It would seem there is yet hope. But “intelligence” is only a manifestaion of something always already underlying existence, and there are many kinds and levels of it. And yes, it can be seen even on Earth. Why, there have been a few people living here lately whom even I respect greatly!

If God had made some other life form, why wouldn’t he have told us about it?
But why would “He?” Can you imagine how thick the Bible would have o be if even a small % of the billions of planet in just our Galexy have life forms on them? Then multiply that by the trillions of galaxies we even know about. And there might be other dimensions.
Also, since He died for everyone, wouldn’t that imply that if he HAD created other life, they would need a Savior too?
Why? Maybe some A&E’s were smarter than “ours.” Or maybe all that doesn’t mean what we’re told it does, or has deeper meaning than that.

I think the Other Intelligent Life theories came from people who had no relationship to the One True God. There is no one, Angel, who hasn’t a relationship with the OTG, whatever you have made up about that. Even you were made in that Image and Likeness. Are you being a little silly here? And how do you know that life is what you personally think it is?

At this point in time, what do you think?
None of the options given in the poll.We have not enough data even from a scientific point of view to develop an reasonable opinion.

Most glaringly,we do not know what intelligence actually is. Not knowing what it is, we do not know how it could develop and therefore any opinion about whether it developed elsewhere is just guesswork.

We can only reasonably assume that no “warpdrive” civilization exists in the nearby space (some 100 LYs i guess), because whatver a “warpdrive” might be, it would leave behind very strange signals completly unexplainable by current theories and without any discernable pattern (as the motives for using “warpdrives” can be varying and are unlikely to show any precise pattern - unless they got some public transport system with schedule times, but such high traffic activity we probaly could see for a long distance).

It is a very interesting speculation. Here’s my 2 bits worth.

From a catholic perspective…Christ Jesus our Lord is the 2nd person of the Trinity.
He became a man…for love of man to redeem what was lost when Adam and Eve fell.
(Please bear with me)…
There are trillions upon trillions of stars in the universe and Jesus is their Creator. What an awesome truth to believe He who is Infinite would become a finite and insignifant entity compared to the vastness of the universe (of course we are made in the likeness of God…dont take this into account)…This is our belief.

It is a honour to us that Jesus, the 2nd person of the Holy Trinity became man and elevated our human nature by granting us participation in His divine nature where for all eternity we will spend it unending and eternal contemplation and joy!..if we make it there, that is.

Now given this, may I speculate…

If God wanted to have greater variety in His creation, would He not then created more worlds to show forth the glory of His immense power?

Personally after some consideration on the following points, I believe (rightly or wrongly…only a hypothesis, only a speculation… THAT WE ARE ALONE IN THE UNIVERSE.
  1. My most ardent point being…IF GOD WANTED TO SHOW FORTH HIS POWER AND IMMENSITY, HE HAS ALREADY DONE SO IN …
THE CREATION OF ANGELS.
Matter is rather limiting in its variety. Just for an example EVERYONE HAS SEEN MEN IN BLACK…most of the alien life forms to the best of the creators imagination, HAVE MOST OF THE APPENDAGES WE HUMANS HAVE… ONLY IN DIFFERENT FORMS…

WHEREAS, in angels GOD HAS OUTDONE HIMSELF…IN A MATTER OF SPEAKING.

Every angel is A SPECIES IN HIMSELF.
Every angel is so completely different from another angel… and so much more different than an elephant is diferent compared to a paramecium (a one-cell oganism).

Angels therefore do not communicate as equals. No 2 angels are equals.
Every angel sits alone in his realm. He is LIKEN TO GOD Himself in that there is no equal to another in his realm.
Every angel is either above or below another angel.
AND THERE ARE TRILLIONS UPON TRILLIONS OF ANGELS IN HEAVEN…each one even more beautiful than the other.!!!

So given this argument, I propose that in ANGELS, God HAS ALREADY created a vast array of extraordinary beings which will ravish our hearts and minds for all eternity in admiration and joy IN EXALTATION OF OUR CREATOR GOD. !!

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Sprit, as it was in the beginning, it is now and ever shall be world without end. Amen.

Welcome to the forum! 🙂 I don’t believe we are justified in imposing limits on what God creates - either in this universe or in any other realm. 😉

I completely agree, both with the welcome and with the idea of de-limiting
God from our concepts.

I vote no because it seems improbable. If there were I would not be totally shocked, though, because an infinite God, obviously, is not limited to only making one planet with intelligent life.

Thanks for the welcome. Could you give me an idea how you do the copying. I just copy and paste your replies for want of a better way!

Just to clarify…I am not imposing limits on God at all. I agree there is no limiting Him…But my SPECULATION is that in honour of the 2nd person of the Holy Trinity, man is the highest visible creation… and angels are a class above man objectively and in them God has fulfilled the display of His immense power sufficiently.

It is only a speculation…
.Just as there is no limiting God, He has , in becoming man in Christ Jesus… limited Himself in time for love of man…He didnt have to …but He did…

My proposal is that He can decree that the human race as the highest visible creation and the angels as the highest invisible creation…IF HE SO CHOOSES…THOUGH NOT NECESSARILY SO AS ONLY IN ETERNITY CAN IT BE ANSWERED OR IF WE MEET A REAL E.T.!!!
God bless,

Click on the little box tab in the lower right corner of any post, the one that says Qupte. That opens a widow with that person’s post between a QUOTE ] and a /QUOTE ] (I added spaces so it wouldn’t actually do it,) Then you can subdevide that by either inserting one of those appropriately, or by highliting some text and clicking on the little yellow conversation thing between the mountain scene and the hashtag. Ithink there is a tutorial somewhere on posting. Check it out and play, or just post and speculate about the buttons up there! 🙂

It is fun to speculate. I think, for my part, I’d rather meet REALITY then a REAL E.T. But hey, the real ET might have a better handle on Rality, lol!

Absolutely.

Of course, I’m inclined to think they’re of equal or lesser advancement than us. Becuase if they were super advanced they’d be able to find us sooner then we could them, and that might not be the kind of visit we want.

But yeah, its a big universe. I dont’ think humanity will find other intelligent life for probably hundreds of years. And if we do find them, I hope they’re equal to us in the arms race, Its bad enough we massacre our own species when people want more land, I’d hate to think it’d happened to some poor green guy and his tentacled family.

I found the reports of transmissions in which anomalies were found by our astronauts on the moon to be of particular interest. Especially the part where there was a number of ships lined up watching them. That’s one I’ve heard from several directions, including an acquaintance of one of the arstronauts. And of course, there is the possibility that “they” are “us,” one way or another. Ever read Saucer by Stephen Coonts? Kind of a fasciinating idea behind that as to our history.

God doesnt need to tell us if he had created other life forms, does he?
Just as He did reveal He is Father, Son and Holy Spirit…His choice and His freedom to do so.

He died for every human person because of the Fall.It doesnt imply that this redemption has to be applied for other life forms if the economy of salvation is different or if there is a need for redemption…

Not necessarily that this theory comes from such people…I have a relationship with Christ our Lord but that doesnt mean I cannot think about such things and mull over them and propose and speculate about it…

It is open to speculation…

I do not know if you all have ever seen the show Ancient Aliens from the History Channel…
But they would try to convince you that much of Christianity is due to aliens.

.I’ve seen some of those shows. I got the impression simply that some few pieces of art with Christian themes,as well as some few of many other cultures, included what might be interpreted as depictions of “flying saucers.” And yes, there is someone who theorized that Jesus or other fgures of note might be aliens. Perhaps you protest too much? The way you put it, Jacob, makes me think of how some problems universal to everyone everywhere are often depicted by say Cosmopolitan as being specific to svelt, attractive women depicted in Hollywood/Paris styles. In fact, many on here seem to depict some problems as specific only to Catholics, or make them problems because they are Catholics, when in fact they are problems of a more universal nature. You get what I’m saying.

Jacob,
Re your Middle Ages art in post 38

A couple of years ago I was standing outside at night and saw a large meteor crossing the sky. It was going left to right at about 20 degrees from the horizontal. Pieces were breaking off and flaming out. This thing must have been gigantic. Since these things travel 20 miles a second, triple Earth’s escape velocity, it likely skipped off the atmosphere and headed back out to space.

It looked very much like that ‘spaceship’ in the bottom picture.

If a similar meteor were coming straight at you instead of sideways to you, it might look a lot like the ‘flying saucer’ over the Virgin’s shoulder.

One can imagine what the Middle Ages painters were thinking about that. They could think of it as some Heavenly manifestation, with an angel inside the thing bearing a message to Earth, not necessarily an alien from Vulcan.
