What exactly constitutes intention to sin? I was in a situation where if I did not do something, I was convinced it would be a mortal sin. I was tempted to just mot do it and accept the consequences later, but after a few seconds, I
I changed my mind, realizing the severity of this mortal sin. I was aware of it being serious before, but what snapped me out of thinking this thought was the thought of how serious a sin this was, and the effects it would have on my soul.

The action in question turned out not to be a sin, but since I am somewhat scrupulous, I sort of believed it to be. I was convinced that I should just do what I could to remedy the situation, but then the thought came up of just accepting the consequences.

Please take this matter to your confessor. We are really not able to offer much help.

I don’t mean to sound callous, but privately you can get into the specifics of the circumstance and your confessor can offer much more clear and specific counsel.
Here, because so many can comment you could wind up even more confused. Better to have a single good voice.

Since you recognize your scrupulous tendencies…It is best that you have a good, regular confessor…

That said…and just going by what you provide in your OP…what you describe sounds like the normal struggle that we all go through from time to time…Especially since you are talking about “a few seconds”…

But do talk to your confessor about this so that in future you will have a better understanding.

Peace
James

You are not “somewhat” scrupulous. You are extremely scrupulous and in need of personal, pastoral care by your priest.

I will continue to give you the same answer on every thread you start here: you must get under the regular care of someone trained to help the scrupulous.

Many times scrupulosity is a symptom of OCD or ther mental health issues, so I also suggest a counselor to help you get things in perspective.

Decisions aren’t instant. The fact that it took you a little bit to arrive at the right decision does not make the process of making the decision bad.

Having the idea that “I will just fix the sin (or what was thought to be the sin) after committing it” just enter your head and then dismissing it after applying thought to it is not sinful. Thinking that that plan is legitimate or following through with it would be problematic.

Just to echo the other posters, it’s definitely a good idea to talk to your confessor about this sort of thing. My thoughts above were not meant to replace that at all.

*I agree with james, better go to the confessor you regularly go, I think this is delicate matters that you should see with him who lknows your soul.
