On advice of others on this forum, following Mass this morning I approached our Priest and declared my intention to formally join the Church and receive the Holy Sacraments. This is the start of a journey that I can not wait for!

Our Priest was so warm and welcoming when I spoke to him, I explained that I had a rough year and felt I had “a calling” to return to Mass and he offered to meet with me to talk which I thought was very nice of him. 🙂

I assume you were Catholic, but lapsed?

Welcome back home.

Hello. I am baptised but not confirmed, my parents always gave me space to decide. This recent calling to return to Mass has made me think that it’s time I join the Church formally.

Welcome and congratulations. It will be a wonderful and grace filled journey.

Your Baptism assumed you into the Body of Christ, so in that regard, you are a Catholic. Our Lord taught that we must become as little children to enter the Kingdom, and lacking Confirmation (first Eucharist?), you are childlike in one sense, and therefore eminently acceptable to God.

The best advice I can give is to call the parish or check the bulletin and find out when Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament is offered. Then, find the time, make the time and spend time with our Lord.

Amazing peace is found in His presence. It is the perfect place to pray, read scripture, or tell Him of your thoughts at this point in your spiritual journey. As a beloved prodigal son, be as patient With Him as He has been with you. And, when you receive your consolation and come to the sure knowledge that He is there, you will be changed.

For what they are worth, my pathetic prayers are ascending.

If you are baptised Catholic you are formally in the Church. Even though you are not confirmed you can go to Confession and then you may receive Communion.

@snavemarc

The comment by @thistle is true, in the sense that you were baptized Catholic, but not true, in that it would go against every Catholic protocol if you just do that on your own without (name removed by moderator)ut from your priest.

Please get your final word on how to make your First Confession and First Holy Communion ONLY from your priest. He’ll know how to lead you to the beautiful and unforgettable moments during which you receive those sacraments. Maybe it would be possible for the priest to meet with you and your mother at the same time, since you’ve said that she, also, would like to receive, but currently is hindered by illness.

Best wishes!
