Intepret these bible versus please, Mormons use for marriage continuation in heaven

when asked a mormon friend this is what they said…
“the children of this world” are the sadducees, as they are so focused on the worldly pleasures, so Jesus is relating marriages to their marriage. he says that if you marry only for worldly pleasures, you are only able to attain a place of equal pleasure in “that world” which we would identify as the kingdoms of Heaven. So if the sadducees, the children of this world, which Jesus’ statement is directed to, are married without the sealing power, then they won’t enter into celestial glory and their marriage won’t continue because they weren’t sealed."

They put a lot of words in the savior’s mouth, don’t they?

The simple fact is that there is nothing in the bible that indicates that marriage will continue beyond death, but there are several passages that indicate that it will not.

Funny that out of the three synoptic gospels, they pick the one that is easiest for them to twist.

Here are the others:

For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven. - Mark 12:25

For in the resurrection they neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the angels of God in heaven. - Matt 22: 30

Jesus not only says that in the next world we do not get married, he also says that we will not be married but will be like the angels. Note that he does not say that we will be angels, but that we will be like the angels in that we will be unmarried as the angels are unmarried.

The burden of proof is on your friend to prove that Jesus was addressing the Sadducees . . .who, BTW, did not believe in the afterlife anyway. . . and that this teaching was known and understood the way your friends understand it, and was taught as such, for the last 2000 years.

The Sadducees did not believe in angels either. So when Jesus said that in the resurrection we would be single like the angels, he got them twice. I’ll bet he enjoyed that.

Catholic teaching is that if you are in heaven and your husband is heaven and your children are in heaven, there you are all together, in communion with each other and with the Holy Trinity.

Mormons teach that only those who are married in a mormon temple and have their children sealed to them will be together in heaven, with God. What they call the “celestial kingdom”. So, if you marry in a mormon temple, and a child of yours chooses to be Catholic as an adult, Mormons believe that child will not be with your family, or God, but in a lower heaven.

The reality is that Mormons generally aren’t terrible concerned about rooting their opinions in the BIble. When they are it’s because their legitimacy is challenged by an established Christian group. The doctrine of eternal marriage comes from the Doctrine and Covenants and temple rituals that have been passed down from Joseph Smith’s time.
