What separates the church’s infallible teachings from the rest? Is there an infallibility-meter to separate them?
EH?
The Church’s infallible teachings on Faith and Morals…for those who can pin them down.
It’s not my idea to go out on a limb, though. 🤷

How do you know that the church is infallible on questions of “faith” and “morals”? Stupid me! Because the church says so! And how do we know that the church is right? Simple, because it was founded by Jesus personally. Oops… how do we know that Jesus founded the church? Easy… the church teaches it. I would call it circular argument.

However, Dogbert prefers to call it: “there are no loose ends”. 😃 (patheos.com/blogs/danpeterson/2016/07/no-logical-loose-ends.html)

Seriously, Vera. Why are you even here? Why do you log into CA every day?

To try and bully people for choosing a faith you may have abandoned because it makes you feel better about your spiritual situation? Because we think the metaphysical is real and you don’t?

Vera_Ljuba - As is, you are akin to blind people, who keep arguing about the color of a picture which has not been painted.
Why has this guy not been reported?

Since I don’t want to derail the thread…
Oh? Here’s the OP:
I was wondering if anyone knows for sure, if Catholics are allowed to believe the theory that
there were hominids who weren’t fully human because they didn’t have human souls, but Adam and Eve, as well as their offspring were ensouled and interbred with these other hominids, and started the human population?
So a question about what Catholics are allowed to believe. And your latest contribution:

It seems you’re too late in your desire to avoid a tangent. Moreover, I’m not sure what your particular view could add on the topic of the “Catholicity” of the “unsouled” humans.

BTW, Rossum, I’m not sure if your contribution of “huma” is dogmatically permitted or not. I am, however, quite sure that I found it very interesting. Something new to me. Thanks!

Maybe it does not matter to YOU. But since it is one of the important tasks to “spread the good news”, to bring the “aimlessly wandering” to the “true faith”, you should realize that the principle of “you are required to swallow everything that the church teaches, whether it makes sense or not, whether the church claims infallibility or not” does not help in your endeavor of being the bearer of these “good news”. 🙂

It would be beneficial to separate the wheat from the chaff, the literally correct verses of the bible from the allegories. I suspect that the times are new now, when the church needs to support its teachings with evidence. It is no longer sufficient to say: “you are required to accept everything whatever the church says”. But, hey, it is your endeavor. If you wish to disregard a friendly suggestion, be my guest. Of course you should not be surprised that the pews are getting emptier.

In case you’re not fly catcher-in-cheek:

Seriously, would that be suppressing free speech? i don’t like Vera’s attitude either but i’ll defend her (or his?) right to be here. If we’re being “challenged”, it’s up to** us** to defend the Faith, but you others know more about the issue than i do. 🤷

The first post i put on this thread was #14, questioning what you “think”, and your inferring that incest would be worse than your idea. So, how do YOU know that none of YOUR ideas rejects “ANY of the Church’s teachings, infallible or not.”?
(Until it’s condemned i’ll maintain that incest for a certain period would be preferable to your belief which, to be honest, sounds revolting.)

Arguably, i’m more cautious than you are!

i agree with** SOME** of this.

I’m not educated enough to know in spite of my mother’s background in biology see it’s not always genetic. I mean I guess not again I’m not good at biology.

Just a quick remark. There is no right to free speech on a privately owned and moderated board. If the moderators consider my posts to be unworthy, they can take away my posting privileges. 🙂
