Hi

I want to ask this and truly want to know.

I love someone who is a muslim but he respects my belief in Jesus and christianity. We share views on faith and respects each others faith.

I want to marry him. He has no problem of taking me to the church and coming with me and praying. Sometimes he goes alone for mass.

But he cannot convert to christianity because of family problems.

Can I marry him. We love each other very much.

And I am not able to think of anyone else as my life partner and think that I will be doing wrong if at all I marry someone else.

Please tell me.

This is not an inter-caste marriage. This is an interfaith marriage.

Catholics can only marry other Catholics. To marry a non-baptized person requires you receive a dispensation from disparity of cult from the Bishop.

In some countries, such as the United States, this can be done rather easily if the Catholic will be free to practice their religion and raise their children Catholic.

In other countries, such as Islamic states, a dispensation would not be given easily because there is a real danger that a woman would not be allowed to practice her religion freely nor would she be free to raise the children Catholic due to Islamic laws.

So, the first step is that you and he visit your priest and discuss all that is necessary for the two of you to enter into a marriage in the Catholic Church.

No matter how much you believe you love this person, it is your duty to always put Christ first.

Yes you can marry him.
You answer is not helpful as the OP was asking for the CATHOLIC requirements for marriage.

Catholics are NOT free to marry non-Catholics. To marry a non-Catholic requires a dispensation from the Bishop after an interview determines whether or not there is a danger to the free practice of Catholic faith on the part of the Catholic or the raising of the children as Catholic.

A woman proposing to marry a Muslim man may be turned down for such a dispensation due to the danger to her faith.

Why can he not convert to Christianity? It’s his decision, not his family’s.

By the same token, why should anyone “convert” to a faith (especially if they don’t believe in it) to appease others?

If he’s happy in his faith, and you are happy in your own, then what’s the problem with getting married?👍

Perhaps you don’t realize that in Islamic states, a Muslim converting to Christianity is subject to the death penalty?

Those who are in non-Islamic states are free to do so from a legal standpoint, but still face very severe sanctions within their own religion up to and including being targeted in “honor killings.” This has happened to a number of Muslims who have converted.

Interesting. You say that he goes to Mass alone sometimes. Does that mean that he fully understands everything that our Catholic faith teaches? IF so, then (if I were in your situation), I would ask him to convert. What’s more important to him, -Jesus, or his family? (and yes he would be rejected by his family). I have been teaching my children for years (now of marrying age): “DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH A NON-CATHOLIC.”
If you give this serious thought, -and if you ‘ARE’ a faithful Catholic-, you will likely come up with all the reasons why you shouldn’t.

How will his family take it when you tell them that you, as a Catholic, intend to raise the children as Catholic, when they can’t accept that their son might be interested? If you are serious about marriage, you should see a priest right away; he will help you see what you REALLY would be getting yourself into; I don’t know of too many sucessful marriages between a Catholic and a Muslim.

It is a really really really bad idea to marry a muslim man. Really REALLY bad.

Because of what would happen to him. This ranges from being jailed or executed in some muslim countries to his family disowning him in other countries.
Muslims do not believe God gave us freewill to choose (or not) to become his willing servants. They believe we are all born God’s slaves with no right to choose otherwise.

Forgive my questioning here but so near to being the “good Muslim who isn’t a fanatic” paradigm is the man you describe that I do have to wonder if you are sincere. Pease forgive me if you are.

He attends Mass but won’t convert? This though he shares your views on faith? Presumably your views on faith don’t extend to willing and independent attendance at islamic services?

I am truly sorry if I misread you but this seems like an effort to get people to be kneejerk anti muslim. If I am wrong and you correct me I will withdraw this suggestion 100%.

Few believing muslims will allow their wives bring up their children in another faith. If your position is real seek the guidance and counsel of your priest and listen to him carefully.

I don’t see anything wrong with intercaste marriage, but interreligious marriage could present some problems when you come to the quesiton of the children and what religion they will be taught.

And the majority of muslim men who seem distant from their faith and marry christian women seem to revert to it after marriage and the approach of children. Having children is often experienced as a call to faith for christians as well so it isn’t a surprise.
