Regarding why we pray to Mary and the saints, as opposed to just going “straight to God”, I was thinking about it and had an insight I hadn’t really heard before. It seems to me that implicit in the protestant’s disagreement is the feeling it diminishes the power of Christ as being fully able to intercede without the help of the saints. Is it possible they feel that way? If so, my response is that Christ doesn’t need the assistance of the saints to *hear *our needs, but WE need their assistance in *voicing *those needs (well, we don’t need it but believe sure helps). Said succinctly, intercession is not to assist God, but to assist us. Is this a theologically sound viewpoint for me to express?

My take on intercession. Consider that we are all sinners and although we are considered brothers in Christ, our records are less than stellar. While the saints are purified and holy people are close friends if not actual relatives of Christ (as in His mother or foster father, etc)

IF you were to ask some for a favor would it not be wiser to ask their mother or their very close friend ??? Would you more likely get your wish granted IF you asked the King’s mother or close friend or would you ask on your own merits have no special relationship or special invitation to speak ??

Yes your take is theretically sound.

I make no claims to being a deep theologian, but it works for me! 👍

I do not know if it is theologically sound, but it makes sense to me. In my prayers I ask the Blessed Mother and the Saints to be my role models. Given my intellectual limitations it is easier to imitate Jesus and all of them, than to understand the mistery of God.
