Intercessions of the Life Giving Cross

What does it mean when we ask for the Intercessions of the Life Giving Cross? It’s … not a person… I never quite got this prayer. Thanks!
 
Perhaps it is a literary device, possibly comparable to when the Psalmist commands inanimate objects to give praise to God? Don’t quote me unless someone big like Mardukm validates this.
 
One finds this in longer doxologies naming the hierarchy of Saints e.g. “by the intercessions of the Most Holy Theotokos, the power of the Precious and Life-Giving Cross etc.”

It should read “by the power of” in relation to the Cross and where it doesn’t, it is assumed that the reference is to the power of the Cross that comes from the One Who was crucified on it.
