Hello everyone!

I have a friend that has fertility issues, and she is currently expecting baby number 2. She credits her pregnancy to the intercession of St. Martha.

I credit my conversion (and the conversion of my family) to the powerful intercession and love of the Blessed Virgin. The Blessed Virgin has been watching over me since I was born. I was born to a nonpracticing former baptist at a Catholic hospital- St. Mary’s. I also recently came across the miraculous medal and saint card that was placed in my crib when I was born. My mother kept the card all of these years. Other than being yellowed with age, it is in perfect condition. I plan on framing it soon.

I love to hear these stories of intercessory blessings and answered prayers. Anyone care to share any intercessory stories?

Hi Mary Catherine. What a great thread! Thank you for posting.

My experience is with Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Since I was a young girl, I have had an attraction to the Carmelites. And actually wanted to enter the order in my early 20’s. But my vocation was not encouraged, at home. And I “dropped” it. In my mid 30’s… I fell away from the practice of the faith. And was a “non-practicing” Catholic… for 10 years. My life became increasingly, a downward spiral.

Well, Our Blessed Mother finally had enough of my shenanigans. 😉 and she roped me in… using the Brown Scapular. My return to the Church, was through her intercession. It was completely unexpected… and 100% unsolicited (I hadn’t been praying for a return, or a conversion or anything!). It was like a lightning bolt and in my opinion, miraculous.

While I do not claim to have had a “vision”… I DO, completely acknowledge and proclaim Our Lady of Mount Carmels “intervention” in my downfall. She literally put out a net (the Brown Scapular) which caught me. I have been back in the Church now, for going on 4 years. And I will never, ever leave Home… or my Mama… or my Lord… again. Praise God! :crossrc:

Can’t wait to read the responses of everyone else!

This may not seem like an intercessort story, but it seemed and still seems to me to be one. I have been thinking about the priesthood for a while, but was worried about public speaking and having the confidence to stand up and talk to people in my own words and reflections. I prayed about it and asked the intercession of Pope John Paul II and Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen, who were both wonderful speakers and had a great rapport with other people. Not long after, a couple of opportunities arose. I asked for confidence and for the chance to improve my communication skills. This week I am leading the RCIA discussion on ‘Conversion: A life-long process’’, am looking forward to that and am hoping it will leave an impression.

I have one with St. Bernadette - I was in RCIA and plugging through my Bachelor’s degree. Midterms hit and I had the worst head cold of my life. It was a rough semester and I needed to do well on my midterms. We had just talked about the Saints and I figured I’d give it a shot. I asked St. Bernadette for help and the next day, my head cold was entirely gone. Midterms went fine and I passed my classes that semester.

St. Thomas Aquinas and St. Joseph of Cupertino have helped me so many times with regards to exams I’ve lost track.

I asked Our Lady of Guadalupe to take care of our baby - we lost a little one in November and conceived Elise in December - this baby has had 0 health problems and is just kicking away. 🙂 I thank Our Lady for Elise’s health and for my sanity (usually I’m a huge worrywart but this pregnancy has been pretty not worrisome for me, I was anticipating the opposite with it being so soon after the miscarriage). Speaking of which, today is the 5th month-a-versary of losing our first little one.

St. Therese the Little Flower has apparently been talking to Jesus about me recently because I find her fingerprints all over my life as of late. 🙂

I love the Saints!

AWESOME!

I am back in school as well, finishing up my bachelor’s. I know how tough it can be.👍

I just came into the church this past Easter. We so appreciate and love all of our RCIA team members, deacons, and priests!
Said a prayer for your talk.

The intercession and love of our Blessed Mother is SO powerful. It is hard to explain to my non-Catholic friends.

I’ve got 2 actually:

One from when I went through RCIA a couple of years ago:
I was really unsure whether or not to go through with it but I thought to myself if Catholocism is the true Church of Christ then I know that some how I’ll be given a sign or something. So I prayed a Rosary Novena and asked the Blessed Mother to some how let me know that this was where I was supposed to be. The entire time I was praying the novena I was uneasy about entering the Church. But on the 9th day, after I finshed I had an overwhelming sense of peace and I knew that this was where I was meant to be.

The second one happened just a few weeks ago. I have been praying for a couple of years now for the Lord to help me get a teaching job and to help me get out of the stressful job I’m in. The months went by and I still didn’t get even an interview for the job. I kept telling myself that the Lord knows best and its just not time yet. So a couple of weeks ago I decided to pray a novena to St. Jude because I just thought it was a “lost cause”. In the middle of the novena, I recieved a call to come in for an interview for a teaching job. It went exceptionally well. By the end of the novena, I had a phone call saying I got the job!! I don’t think a day has gone by that I haven’t thanked the Lord for this (and also for St. Jude for his intercession). And by the way DH and I work at the same law firm right now and we had been afraid to leave while the other one was there but he now has a new job too so we’ll both be closer to home and with new, better jobs.

Praise God!

Yes, I’ve had similar experiences. I think we need to ask Our Blessed Mother to especially touch the lives of those who do not know her. I think her Immaculate Heart goes out to those of her children, in a special way. God bless.

Six years ago, my husband lost his job. He, of course thought he would get another right away, but didn’t. As the months passed he became more and more despondent. I, OTOH, felt completely at peace, and prayed to St. Joseph with the confidence of knowing he would help us through.

About a year later, just as we were running out of money to keep up the mortgage payments, as our savings dwindled to nothing, my husband got a job in another state.

We had to sell our house, and did, just in time to close and leave. The new company paid for the move. Had it been delayed even one more month, we would have been out of money and defaulted on the mortgage.

The real estate guy was a godsend as well. What is more, he was a former Catholic whose bookstore went belly up, and he sold Catholic items that all went into the trash when the new people bought him out. He tried to get me to “hide” my religious articles, but I refused. Anyway, he made out big on the deal. It affected him deeply.

Thank you, St. Joseph. You’re the best.**

Lovely stories in this thread!

I have had a great blessing through The Holy Spirit in my early teens…probably 12 years old.

My parents were very poor and I was about to enter high school and since Mum and Dad could not afford a Catholic College had sadly informed me I would have to go to a state school. I was beside myself as I wanted to enter a Convent when I turned 16 and wanted to continue my Catholic education.
The nun who taught me understood my grief and said she would put me in for a scholarship exam to a couple of Catholic Colleges but neither of us held out much hope as though I was a good student, I was nowhere near an outstanding one - and only outstanding students got scholarships through the then exam system. Sister advised me to go to Mass daily and pray that I would get a scholarship. I was already attending daily Mass and felt that I would hence have to do something special. Since knowledge and wisdom (which I associated in my youthful ponderings as needful for a schoalrship winner) were gifts of The Holy Spirit, I began to pray to Him and made a promise that when I sat for the exam as an act of trust in Him, I would write the very first thing that came into my mind. I kept my promise and to whom I was daily praying very ardently a secret.

When it came to exam time I was totally intimidated by a hall with about 200 it must have been students and desks and took my allotted place dreadfully nervous and praying assiduously to The Holy Spirit. The exams were over three days encompassing a few subjects and I did exactly what I had promised The Holy Spirit.

To both Sister’s and my absolute astonishment I won a scholarship to a Dominican Girls’ College. Sister was so astounded she made enquiries and discovered that the only mistake I had made was in general knowledge. The question was “What is the Bishop’s hat called” - I knew jolly well it was mitre, but the first thing that came into my mind was “crook” (the Bishop’s staff) and so, even though I knew I was wrong but to honour my promise to The Holy Spirit, I wrote “crook”.
Sister was quite astounded I could have made such a silly mistake since religious instruction I always did excell in…but I kept my secret with The Holy Spirit.

Poor Mum and Dad were in a terrible position having promised me a baby grand piano if I won a scholarship…so convinced were they too that I would not get one. I studied pianoforte for 9 years and it was a subject for me in College. Most upset on hearing that I had won a scholarship, they asked me would I settle for a second hand bike to ride to College. I gladly agreed!

That began my lifelong very active devotion to The Holy Spirit.
My scholarship was for three years, which the nuns extended to five years…they had their eyes on me for their Dominican noviciate…God had other plans.
I was also eventually head prefect at my College…but I never once dobbed I am most happy to say. I dealt with things myself. Someone may have copped a pie in their face, or a squashed cream bun in their blazer pocket hung up in the hall outside our classrooms, their sports shoes tied in knots together…but no, I never dobbed on anyone!!! 😃 No goody two shoes here!!!👍

I love this thread! Barbara Therese… thank you for sharing your story and devotion to the Holy Spirit. SO uplifting! 🙂

Now, will you please teach the ignorant… (moi. 😊 lol). What is dobbing? btw, I’m glad you didn’t… whatever it is! 😃

I kind of hesitate to post this because it is kind of personal, and I am not too sure about what other posters will think about this. To me though, it is a powerful example of how the saints can and do intercede for us.

A couple of years ago when John Paul II was dying and his health was front page news there were many, many horrible postings on the Yahoo message boards associated with these news stories. So many people were attacking Catholicism, and the most disturbing posts were from non-Catholic Christians. Well, as a convert, I was upset and started responding with the truth. Soon it became clear that there was a little band of regular Catholic posters defending the faith. I got to know one of them off the boards pretty well and we developed a friendship. He taught me about intercessory prayer. Growing up as a Baptist I really didn’t understand it. We began to take a look at Scripture and how it supported praying for each other and praying to the saints.

We also got close, probably far closer than two married people should. He shared some very personal things with me…from how St Therese had interceded in his life…and some very serious problems in his marriage. He and his wife had not been intimate in seven years. I shared my faith stories and my marital problems as well. We sort of were probably at a dangerous point where things could lead to an affair. We were really swept up in a rekindling of our faith though, and our prayerlife probably increased ten fold.

Well, one day we had had a fairly deep conversation while he was at work. That night each of us on our own made a very heartfelt petition to St Therese. When I had learned just how badly my friend was being neglected by his wife, I poured out my heart to St Therese. I asked her to please intercede for my friend and his wife and to restore and renew their marital intimacy. I offered as a sacrifice any chance at happiness in my marriage, which had been a miserable one. My friend it turned out on his own that very night had also made a very heartfelt prayer to St. Therese, asking her to intercede on behalf of my marriage, and offering up his own sexuality as a sacrifice. We ended up talking that night and found out that we had both made these similar prayers for each other, with offering sacrifices that would both essentially cancel out what the other was praying for. I don’t know, it was a moving moment to know what each of us would give for the other’s happiness.

Well, the very next day my prayer to Saint Therese was answered. My friend’s wife said yes to him after a seven year drought. Not only that, but all of her fears that she had had since the beginning of the marriage seemed to have gone away. She said she felt like a miracle had happened, and became much more open to intimacy than she ever had before.

Well, we did end up staying friends for a couple of years. Chatting frequently. We joined CAF together. In fact, he is the one that chose my user name for me. After a while my conscience did get to me though, most strongly during the time that my divorce was finalizing and his mother was dying. I knew that his mother wanted him to make a plenary indulgence for her after her death. I wanted him to be able to do that with absolutely no attachment to sin, and with me being divorced I knew that our friendship was especially questionable. So, we talked about it and said good bye. It’s been almost a year since we talked. I still pray for him at the elevation of the host at Mass and hope that both he and his wife are blissfully happy in their marriage.

Sorry! The culture divide!:o
“Dobbing” is a colloquial term here in Australia for reporting another for some reason to an authority. Head prefects were asked to report any students breaking rules to the nuns who then metered out punishment. I never reported anyone, rather spoke to the student myself / metered out my own punishment unless of course something had been particularly serious, and in my time thankfully it never was. To “dob” also known as “to rat” is a particularly frowned upon Australian past time, again unless something is particularly serious…unless one is in the criminal culture when “ratting” is always regarded with considerable disdain, making an outcast of the “dobber”.

Oh, ok! Thank you Barb! Learn something new each day. lol. Here in the U.S. it’s called “ratting”… or “snitching”. At least, it was in my day. 😊 Don’t know what the kids call it now.

But I agree, it’s kind of an awful thing to do to someone… unless, the “crime” is serious… and the snitching… er… ratting… er… dobbing is for their best interests. lol. God bless.

(MaryCatherine… sorry, don’t mean to highjack your thread!)

wow
that is a very heartfelt story.
thnx for sharing.

dulcissima,
My advice to you is let him go. Put him out of your mind. Don’t let him be an occassion of sin for you.

I might add that you do not know “how badly my friend was being neglected by his wife.” Could part of the reason have been that he spent so much time on the computer conversing with another woman?

It sounds all so innocent with good intentions, but the “devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” Be on your guard.

Well, my story happens to be about my dear little Saint Jehanne. I pray to her a lot, because I feel we have a lot in common, and I connect with her well.

Because of Jehanne, I now wish to travel overseas to France, do volunteer work, and even go on the ‘Joan of Arc campaign trail’, starting in Domrémy and ending up in Rouen. (With a stop over in Orléans for the festival, of course!) I’d love to do that on horseback too. Just a sort of backpacker thing. So, naturally, I decided to take a French class, because I don’t think yelling “Bonjour! Croissant!” would have gotten me very far. (Maybe fed, though.)

It has given me a new love for the French, and ironically, the woman teaching it has “Darc” in her family line somewhere and may even be related to Jehanne.

In the first class, we learned from 1-100 straight away, which was terrible for us newbies because of the crazy numbering system. But I prayed to Jehanne for help that night, and when I woke up in the morning, I was rattling the numbers off really easily. Rather handy having a French saint to help you out. =D

Continuing on with my classes, I had the second one just this Monday, and it was far crazier than the last one because our teacher was spending most of the lesson talking in French and we had no idea what she was saying. She was explaining the dates, telephone numbers, and how the French swap their commas and periods around.

(When I got home that night, I switched on the tv and found a little synchronicity. Because I flicked on the tv and watched this show called Sea Patrol. And on it, a sailor had stolen the French flag.)

And because of my classes, I naturally wanted to watch the French news. The thing is, it’s on at 9:15am, And I’m never up in time to see it. So I asked God once or twice with no luck to wake me up in time to see it, given that I have this horrible habit of waking up in time and then going back to sleep.

But the morning after the class, I got woken up by a nice surprise. Saint Jehanne herself had popped up up in the hands of some couriers - I’d bought this beautiful 23" statue of her off ebay. And she’d arrived early enough for me to have time to open the box up, put her together, and then watch the news. Where I got to put what I’d learned into effect. With the dates, numbers, and the whole switch of commas and periods.

Either that, or the French are struggling. The price of eggs has gone up fourteen thousand percent. 😛

Now I’ve got my beautiful little life-size Jehanne (j/k!) sitting between my bed and the computer. And my rosary necklace is wrapped around her, with her outstretched hand holding the centre, so that the crucific is dangling down. It looks like it’s part of the statue.

I absolutely love it. Even though her eyes are staring off into the distance, I feel like she’s constantly there watching over me. And when I get that feeling, it’s usually because I haven’t been praying.

So it’s like “I am now Saint Creepy Stalker. Start praying, or I’m going to make you feel very uncomfortable by letting you know that I’m watching every time you even think about doing something wrong.”

And then when I do pray, that feeling goes away. Of course, then I get paranoid and start eyeballing the statue, wondering when the next round of Watcher begins. At the same time, it’s a calming reminder of Jehanne’s presence and influence in my life; I can just look over to her when I’m feeling angry or whatever, and it helps me to think about what she’d do in the same situation, and what she thinks would be best for me to do.

So I thank her for that.

Which reminds me. I need to rewrite these two really beautiful prayers to Jehanne by Andrea Rau that I found so that they are more personal. I’ll need them one day, and I’ll share these ones by Andrea with you all in case you ever want to use them.

Prayer for the Intercession of St. Jehanne Darc

Dear Sweet Patron Saint,
I implore you in the name of God to intercede on my behalf and guide me. Help me to be strong when people are against me and question my belief in God. Help me to stand by my faith and my decisions concerning my faith. I wish to do only God’s will, and I beg of you, O Patron Saint, to help keep me on His true path, and guide me in His will. I need friends now, more than ever before, and I choose God as my first and foremost best friend, above all others. But I also choose you as a close and special friend to relate to and to talk to. Please counsel me by any means necessary that is in the will of God to do.
Please let me have the wisdom and understanding to receive his message and the patience and virtue to listen so that I may understand his word.
St. Jehanne, Pray for us.
Amen.

Prayer of Thanks and Gratitude to St. Jehanne Darc

Dear Patron Saint,
Thank you for accompanying me throughout the day, and in the work that I did. Thank you also for your guidance and your counsel. Please help me to listen to God and to you, dear Saint, that I may do what I am called to do. Please intercede on my behalf and beg God to take all my faults and turn them into virtues. I thank you for all you have done for me, and all the things you have interceded for on my behalf. Please continue to pray for me and for all the souls who need it.
St. Joan of Arc, Pray for us.
Amen.

First, let me say, I totally understand and agree with your advice and have given it myself on this forum many times simply because of the experience that I had.

Believe me I don’t feel like that about him any longer. I think that temptation was there, but mercifully we were freed from it. Most of the time the only time I do think about him is during communion.

Yes, we did spend way too much time together. Yes, we were closer than we should have been. I would not say that it was a contributing factor to the neglect that he experienced, as that had truthfully been there throughout his marriage and most especially the 7 years prior to when I met him. As for my marriage, it was an abusive one and always had been.

The thing though with us was that we were able to see the big picture…that anything between us would be an illusion that would crumble before us if we pursued it. I have no doubts about that. That is why for me it was so important to see that he have the real thing with his wife, and that she was the only one who could give him what was real.

Even though I am now divorced and alone, I do not entertain fantasies about him. I am totally at peace with the whole thing and grateful to God for truly looking out for what was best for us.

And btw, he does not come to these forums anymore nor spend much time on the internet. I wouldn’t have written it if I thought he would ever read it. His wife did know about me, so I think by not spending the time on the computer, she knows that her husband is entirely hers. I want her to have that security.

I would never ever recommend that anyone ever do anything like that, because it is way, way too risky. Maybe I shouldn’t have even posted it. I don’t know.
