Interchurch marriage

Greetings All !!

Im a catholic girl ( Syro malabar church kerala,India ) in love with a Malankara orthodox boy .He is the only son and his family will not want him to convert. There was a general notion that the churches have agreed on interchurch marriages allowing both the sides to follow the faith of their choice. and so we decided our wedding and started planning with the consent of our parents… but here comes the villain (im sorry to put it that way ) the catholic church (my parish) intervenes and says 'we will not allow this" as in they cant allow their sheep to be stolen by other churches. And my world went spinning ! My parents went ballistic. All because recently the archdiocese sent out a letter telling we need to keep the flock together. which is absurd !

If things had gone well … I would have continued in my faith of being catholic and eventually my husband n kids would have followed me into the catholic faith ( as my would-be hardly goes to church n even wen he does he opts for catholic church as the masses r smaller 😉 ) this is not a speculation … it was discussed n we had agreed mutually. But this letter from the church and the refusal from the parish priest is forcing me to completely shift to the malankara orthodox church … cuz apparently i cant take part in eucharist in catholic church after this marriage.

Its all too hard to digest ! We have a bible verse for everything we believe in … what bible verse does this act of the parish have. During marriage we read “What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.” Mark 10:9 … Yet the church is doing the same !

Its trying to hold a fistful of sand tightly … not knowing how much sand is flowing out ! We are not living in the crusades age … The youth … the new generation is not the kind to blindly follow faith …they have questions… the more the church tries to force things … the more they will rebel… For the life of me I don’t see anywhere in the bible jesus ordering people to be catholic or any religion for that matter ! And yet we are made to believe that converting to any other denomination is a sin !

Church … be it any denomination or non denominational … is for worship … is for knowing jesus … PERIOD ! its not about showing strength … showing how many followers you have … If u think it is … its just to increase your sunday collections … its just to have more money n more power … WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY OPPOSITE OF WHAT JESUS DIED FOR !

I have more bitterness to the catholic church now than any other denomination person has ! instead of nurturing my faith … its completely wiping it out ! I have fought with my friends growing up … all along to uphold the catholic faith … wen questioned bout its many pagan facets! and yet … now I feel stupid.

I knw many might disagree with me … this is not a toy that my parents said no to … its a big decision in my life … and the church has no right to deny it ! Its sad to see teh catholic church taking such steps…

At present we r trying to figure out alternatives to get this wedding going…
wish me luck … and if anyone knws a way to work this out ( other than contacting The Pope ;)) please do let me know … I just want things simple…continue in my faith…

Was it just this specific priest or parish that denied performing the marriage? Is there a possibility of getting married at a different parish?
 
NO Josephine, they cannot deny dispensation as there is already a written agreement between the two churches. Check suryoyo.uni-goettingen.de/news/marriages.html

In fact, my marriage in Jan’85 went off smoothly only because of this agreement between our churches that was reached in June '84

Bring this agreement to the attention of your pastor. If he will not relent take it to your bishop, but whatever happens do not cut yourself of from the lawful church of Christ; remember the words of St.Irenaeus

If you want sure success you must first migrate to a Latin Rite parish in your area. Once you do this everything else will fall in place and you will be amazed at the rapport which Latin Rite Catholic Church enjoys with the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church.

However the catholic parish priest insists that the agreement is not the with malankara orthodox church under the catholicos in kottayam . But both the agreement n the church he goes to is malankara syrian orthodox… its unbelievable the number of divisions!
 
Please avoid inter church marriage as it leads to a very difficult end as my son is now experiencing at present.His wife wants a divorce after eleven years.They have 2 girl children,10 and 9.I am in total shock.My nerves at the wits end and I sit here this am shaking at the computer key board.He doen not know what to do nor do we as parents.I ask your prayers.My life feels as if it is ending.My hands shake horribly and my ability to even get along with friends is very sressed.God help me and my family and those 2 grand children.
