Intercourse only for child making?

I think mildly amusing was my aim. 😃

My wife used to have such terrible pain during that time of the month until the children were born and afterwards she was very happy with them as that terrible pain was no more. Unfortunately I think some women use it as a free week to be unfriendly towards their husbands, it is like sleeping in stinging nettles no matter how much I do for her.
YOU try having severe menestrual pain two weeks out of four every single month, 12 months a year for 40+ years, and we’ll see how YOU fair! That’s so mean to say about your poor wife! 😦

I think everyone’s pretty much said everything, so I’d like to add only this:

Sex IS for making babies. Whether or not a baby is made, is up to God, in His goodness, who gave women natural cycles of fertility and infertility.

Keep in mind: sex IS for making babies, JUST LIKE the eye is made for seeing, or the ear is made for hearing.

The fact that it’s pleasurable, is just a bonus. Just like watching something funny or happy is pleasurable, or hearing music we like is pleasurable.
What a well stated and short response that sums up something that more people (including Catholics) need to learn.👍:clapping:

Also people who are unable to have children or couples post-childbearing age can also still have sex.

Oh geesh here we go.😃

Men, throughout history have taxed their bodies for wages, war and women. (oh man those three w’s just came to me!)😉 If you wonder why men do not understand this issue is because we can work 10 hours on an oil rig with only 7 fingers because they keep getting chopped off and a peg leg and go home and we should not be given a pass to treat the one person we should love above all others like junk.
Lets not turn this into a bash fest on the sexes…
I am married and my wife is just as sweet on her menses as she is any other day of the month. And that is noticed by me. And that is why she has my respect. She is logical, (a scientist, a shrewd businesswoman and incredibly classy. At home and at work. No matter the day, no matter the cramps.

Ive never had sex before but being a young man with a healthy body I think that I will be wanting a lot of it once I get married. Even though its supposed to be procreative only I think there will be times I will want it for the shear pleasure and bonding it gives. That doesn’t mean I will contracept or anything bad but I won’t always be going into thinking that I will be getting pregnant on the other. I mean what would be the purpose for NFP if sex was only for child making?

But inaccurate, given what we’ve already discussed about needing to be BOTH unitive AND procreative. The unitive aspect of sex is not the “icing on the cake” or a “special bonus”, it is an intrinsic part of the marital embrace, which cannot be separated from procreation.

I don’t think Grey Rabbit or Hoosier Daddy were suggesting that the unitive aspect is icing on the cake but that the pleasure is. I don’t think that pleasure=unitive. The unitive aspect transcends the pleasure.

It’s not a free pass though. Many women are doing the best they can. Sorry if we are not perfect, but pain and constant emotional swings hurts! Especially when you have conditions that exasperate the symptoms. I have Endometriosis and I have pain and symptoms (yes including mood swings) ALL month long. I know it’s all part of our womanly punishment for original sin, but I don’t know of ANY man who would trade places for anything.

You won’t be getting pregnant, you are a young man. 😛

Very well put and there can be nothing more unified than to be doing something which is intended to create life together.

You misunderstand the word procreative. The word does NOT mean “had with the intention of having a baby”. It just means it is done in a manner consistent with procreation - ie. Not taking steps to impede conception. Sex in menopause is still procreative.

Right.

I think it is important to start to realize that when God created our bodies and the way that they work and when He invited only Mankind to join him in the co creation of immortal souls, He used this mechanism specifically. And that is the only reason that mechanism feels good or has any sort of unifying aspects.

I agree on the pleasure part, but I believe the unifying aspect was also intended as much and equal to the procreative. It came first actually. We were told to cleave to our spouses and become one flesh even before children started entering the scene. That doesn’t mean we aren’t to be open to life with every marital act, but the child is the fruit of the spouses Union. Not the union being the fruit of the child’s creation. 🤷 The co-creation cannot exist without the union. The union can exist without co-creation happening (infertile couples and older couples.)

The two are bound together. The natural sex act, arising in the proper circumstances of love, binds both aspects together inseparably.

Yes. The unity always happens, the co-creation only happens some of the time. In fact throughout a couples sexual life (in a healthy marriage) the union will happen exponentially more often than the co-creation. The poster I was quoting made the unitive aspect of sex sound like it was coming from the co-creation aspect. It’s actually the opposite. The fruit of the union is the child. Not the other way around. Humans do not have the power to separate the two, without sin. But God does, and He does. Hence why some persons are unable to bear children, and they still are blessed to enjoy the other fruit without sin, the unity.

Co-creation - conception - is not the point. “Procreation” is all we control.
