Ok some of you may remember me but a while ago I wanted to convert to Catholicism then I decided I didnt want to anymore because of certain doctrines (Purgatory, immaculate conception) but recently my JW grandma has been on my case about becoming a JW and although some of their views make sense (Like I never understand Psalms 37:29 which says that the righteous shall posses the earth and reside forever upon it) I thought we reside forever in Heaven with God?

Anyways long story short I dont know what I want to be anymore, to many demonations in Protestantism for me to handle.

Please pray for me that the Holy Spirit will show me where to go!

I think you should do a search for Matthew Kelly. He has some very good talks on CD through lighthouse media. My son (who’s 23) surprised me when I found out he had listened to one of Matthew’s talks 3 times. He connects with young people and helps with some of the confusion that we are bound to have.

I can send it to you if you like.

I will pray that the Holy Spirit will guide you in the right direction. In the meantime there are some good resources here on Catholic Answers that have really helped me understand the Catholic faith as well as the different beliefs of Protestant churches, and the history behind both. I’d recommend reading some articles so you can see where you are.

May the saints and angels accompany you as you search. May Our Lady point the way to Our Lord. May you find your way safely home. Amen.

The eschatological times is one of Jesus’ least taught subjects. Don’t fall for the smoke and mirror tricks - study the things we are to be concerned about in the here and now. What are the things we are to do now?

Just a few hints:
feed the poor
clothe the necked
confess our sins
eat his body

Peace and of course prayers!!!

Oh dear Lord, please help Yogosans14 come to know the one true faith and live in accord with your Holy will. Amen.

Done.

Look up in a real Catholic Bible of 73 books, and listen to the Holy Spirit:

A) Jesus of Nazareth established His Catholic Church and explicitly made four promises to Peter alone:
“You are Peter and on this rock I will build My Church.” (Mt 16:18)
“The gates of hell will not prevail against it.”(Mt 16:18)
I will give you the keys of the Kingdom of heaven.” ( Mt 16:19)
“Whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven.” (Mt 16:19) [Later to the Twelve]

Sole authority:
“Strengthen your brethren.” (Lk 22:32)
“Feed My sheep.”(Jn 21:17).

B) The doctrine of Purgatory is found in 2 Maccabees 12:46: “It is a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead that they may be loosed from their sins.”

So the real Bible is replete with further evidence for Purgatory, here are a few:
  1. Mt 12:32: Our Blessed Lord Himself: “whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.” “The age to come’ means life after death, so Our Lord is clear – there ARE other sins that can be pardoned after death. We see also that the Lord knew that His Jewish listeners knew what He meant by forgiveness I the next life.
  2. Then follows Mt 12:36: “on the day of judgment, men will render account for every careless word they utter.” “Careless words” don’t merit Hell, but there will be a penalty which takes place in the Purgatory assigned for that.
  3. Mt 5:21-6: Christ warns of the coming judgment, and in His parable emphasises “put in prison….you will never get out till you have paid the last penny.” So paid here, or hereafter where the detention is temporary that can be neither heaven or hell – but Purgatory.
  4. 2 Tim 1:16-18: St Paul prays for the house hold of his helper Onesiphorus, then for Onesiphorus himself: “may the Lord grant him to find mercy from the Lord on that Day.”
Another example of purgatory in St Paul’s prayer for the dead.

Yogosans14.

Think FULFILLMENT of Old Covenant and the Psalms.

Think NEW Heavens and NEW earth. I’ll let u look up the appropriate verses.

God bless.

PS

Prayers out for your journey as per your request too. For both aspects of where you end up. Your intellectual journey AND the aspect of your will.

Sometimes the aspect of the will is more difficult to subdue than the intellectual portion of a venture such as this.

I remember you, you started off interested in Catholicism around about the same time as me, you disappeared for a while, and then came back to this forum with a LOL attitude to Catholic teaching and tradition, you got suspended, allowed back, changed your LOL tone, but I knew in that time away from this forum you had developed a certain Protestant trait, which you had then brought back to this forum. The Protestant LOL.

You do not need me to pray for you, you already know what to do.

I know what it is like to be spiritually lost, and that’s a hard place to be. ❤️

Holy Spirit, please guide yogosans14 into all truth. Amen.

This Psalm is attributed to King David who reigned around 1000 B.C. At the time that this Psalm was written, the Israelites did not believe in a heaven after death. They believed that everyone (good and bad) went down to the pit (Sheol) after death and dwelt in silence and gloom.

’What man can live and never see death?
Who can deliver his soul from the power of Sheol?’ (Psalm 89:48 RSV)

.

Revelation also says there will be a new heavens and a new earth. There is something of a definition issue here, as “heaven” refers both to ‘that place where God is’ in most modern usage, but also 'the region above the earth. Although the sky has a longstanding association with God, God is everywhere and always. I see no reason, given what Revelation said and the omnipotence of God, why we couldn’t tour rainforests and white dwarfs, or somewhere which has neither. The important part is that we will live forever with God (first definition of heaven), so I wouldn’t spend much time wondering whether you’ll be on earth, mars, or ursa minor. 😉

Beyond that, some encouragement: seek and you will find. Just be persistant about it, and remember that God’s search for you is even more persistant. 👍

Jesus and the HS work together as you’ll see. Be sure to open up all links and read them. Don’t skip any. They’ve already given you the answer.

[Matthew 16:16-19 (Douay-Rheims Bible, Matthew Chapter 16) , [John 17:20-23 (Douay-Rheims Bible, John Chapter 17) , [John 16:12-15 (Douay-Rheims Bible, John Chapter 16)
  • Jesus established the Catholic Church and gave all His promises and authority to His Church
For space, I’m just working backwards from the year 400 a.d., the Catholic Church has been there in writing, from the beginning. If you’re really serious about this, open up all the links and read them.

Agreed. It is not exegesis that draws the conclusion that the righteous will live in the land (not on earth but in the land) forever. That is what would instead be termed eisegesis. It is taking a verse out of context as a proof of ones belief system.

Letting the Psalmist speak in Psalm 37, one sees in context that there is being a comparison drawn between the wicked and the righteous. The wicked will not be able to remove the righteous from the land of Israel, because the righteous take refuge in God. (In those days family was much more important than now). The righteous would dwell in the land forever through their children who were raised in the same righteous way. Whereas the children of the wicked will be cut off. That is why it states in verse 18 …

And their heritage will abide forever

I really hope that you come into the one true Church, the Catholic Church. Pray frequently and fervently. Pray the Rosary. Pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet is you want to as well. I would strongly recommend that you pray the Rosary every single day but please do not become a Jehovah’s Witness. Their religion is false and is a cult. They don’t even believe in the Trinity. In fact, their Bible is a corrupted version called the New World Translation. It has been manipulated and such so that way it makes their false doctrines look true when in reality they are not true.

But anyway, I would strongly recommend that you pray the Rosary every day. It is a wonderful prayer. In fact, our Blessed Mother will bless you abundantly if you do so.

Also, read some apologetics here on Catholic Answers and on other websites. If you want, send me a message and I will try my best to help you out. I definitely do not have all the answers, far from it. However, if I can help you, I will. If I can’t help you then I will at least try to look up something that can or refer you to someone who can.
