Thoughts? How should we as Catholics act towards immigration reform?

There is a certain irony in how you compare Mexican immigration to the US defending against the Nazis WWII.How about supporting the exforcement of existing immigration laws? The only system that is broken is the political system which refuses to do its constitutional duty to enforce the laws to make us a sovereign nation. We have no southern border, therefore, we are not a country anymore. The president has violated his oath of office on this matter, and the pols in the Congress are also traitors. This behavior, or lack thereof, is tantamount to spitting on the graves of those brave soldiers who died hitting the beaches of Normandy in WWII so we wouldn’t end up speaking German. We are going to end up speaking Spanish without a shot being fired.
Please stop with the “we can’t deport them all.” They will self-deport if employer sanction laws are enforced and the cheap jobs dry up.
Remember, patriotism is a virtue.
Actually, I had not intended any analogy except the one about the languages. It’s amazing how you distorted my response to your post. There is a certain irony in how you compare Mexican immigration to the US defending against the Nazis WWII.
War is not a tool we use to prevent us from having demographic changes in our country. We’re a country full of people with different backgrounds already.
We did not invade Normandy to prevent the US from having German heritage. Much of the people living in the Midwest are descendants of German immigrants.
We invaded it because Hitler was an evil man who was using military action to become more powerful and bring about his insane ideas.
“By defending myself against the Jew, I am fighting for the work of the Lord.” - Hitler, Mein Kampf
Hitler loved his country, and he believed his nation had to be cleansed of a certain race of people. Hitler blamed the Jews for the destruction of his community and nation.
I’m of course not accusing you of being Hitler, but your analogy of the US vs the Nazis and the US vs Mexican Immigration is simply wrong.
Your rebuttal though, misses the point. Previous waves of immigrants (the vast majority of them) came through Ellis Island. There were quotas, registrations, etc. Every country MUST carefully consider the “virtual” envelope that is necessary to maintain a level of security, prosperity, and openess. There is a certain irony in how you compare Mexican immigration to the US defending against the Nazis WWII.
