Basilica of Santo Nino.

Cebu City, Philippines.

Cebu was the original place the Spanish landed in the Philippines and established Christianity there, giving a gift of a small statue of the Baby Jesus from which the basilica derives its name.

Every year in January they have the Sinulog festival and parade many statues of the baby Jesus which are adored throughout the city. Statues of the baby Jesus are found in shops, hotels, taxis, jeepneys and in shrines on the street.

Being in the Traditional Catholicism forum, I was wondering about your inclusion of Hallgrímskirkja, which is a Lutheran cathedral. Or is this meant to be an ecumenical survey? 🙂

Almost fooled me there, though I’m sure not intentionally…

Oh I know it’s a Lutheran church, I just thought it was nice looking so I put it on there. My purpose of this thread was for any type of church to be posted on here. Although honestly only the Catholic churches are nice looking. Most Protestant churches are really boring.

Pittsburgh is blessed with a number of outstanding and interesting churches.

The largest and most Gothic of Pittsburgh churches is the East Liberty Presbyterian Church on S. Highland Ave. Impressive inside as well as outside, it was built by the Mellon family back in the 1930’s. Hardly “boring” even though it is a protestant building. Pictures of it can be seen at cathedralofhope.org.

A very interesting Catholic Church in the neighboring town of Millvale is St. Nicholas Church on Maryland Ave. Not really unique from the outside, the inside features the interesting frescoes of Maxo Vanka, a notable Croatian painter. If you want to see them, you may want to call ahead to see if the church is open as they have a limited liturgical schedule. Some of their frescoes are on the parish website.
