Interesting trend

An interesting article. Thanks for posting the link. Evangelicals who have converted to Catholicism have generally expressed their reasons quite well in their own writings. To some extent, the move to Catholicism seems, in the end, not so big a jump at all. When Francis Beckwith was considering the move, it even seemed to him that he could remain head of the Evangelical Society while becoming Catholic, as he saw no contradictions between the Society’s statement of belief and his Catholic beliefs. Also, it seems to me that evangelicals make the best Catholics.

One thing that struck me in the essay is this part, where a graduate of The King’s College is speaking of the college curriculum:
“He says of the college’s curriculum that it is “not a ‘great books curriculum’ but it draws heavily on the liberal arts tradition.” He adds, “You can’t study the liberal arts without confronting the rich history of Catholicism.”” That reminded me of a comment made by a cousin of mine after attending his first year of a public university. He was not Catholic.

“I never realized”, he said, “that until 500 or so years ago, everybody was Catholic!” Of course, that overstates the case, but he was talking about a course in Western Civilization.

But since few colleges anymore teach the liberal arts, or Western Civilization, students can go entirely through college without ever gaining that insight or any unified vision of history.

There has been an interesting trend lately of Evangelicals converting to Catholicism. Here’s an article that talks about it:

Unclear from the article that this is a “trend” or even something that is occurring now that did not occur before. No specifics or stats are offered.

On the other hand, I believe that Evangelicals - like all other Protestants - who open their hearts and minds when searching for the truth, will find it.

FWIW - there are a number of Evangelicals listed in my Convert Stories database. I also list several books on Evangelical converts.

I have not been able to find any statistics to establish a real trend, but no one can doubt that there has been quite a lot of conversions to Catholicism over the last few years. Norm Geisler and Joshua Betancourt wrote a book called “Is Rome the True Church?” trying to debunk the reasons for conversion. It was written largely in response to so many Protestants leaving for Rome.

The book was panned, and shortly after it was published, Betancourt converted to Catholicism!

Now that is an interesting story!

WOW! I didn’t know that.

Thank you very much, indeed. 👍
