FYI - a respected, knowledgeable Eastern Rite Catholic maintains a website, www.byzcath.org , which is entitled within as “Byzantine Catholic Church in America”. There is a wealth of information available on this site that would be beneficial to many who wish to learn more about the Eastern Catholic Churches and Eastern Christianity, in general.

For example, there is a “Media” section of the website which features several short videos on various topics relating to Eastern Christianity and Catholicism, which were very well prepared. For some, the replay quality is not particularly good (as noted on the website). Further, these are excerpts from the opening minutes of each of the complete videos from which they were sources. But that aside and nonetheless, even from the perspective of an informed Byzantine Catholic, these videos are worthy of exploration. The first one, entitled “Introduction to the Eastern Catholic Churches”, probably provides the most in terms of valuable summarized information within the time alloted for that video segment.

I hope those who wish to learn more about Eastern Catholicism and Eastern Christian traditions will find this website interesting!

I also hope we can identify other valuable websites and internet-based resources that would be useful to those who wish to learn more about the Eastern Churches, and share those via additional postings to this thread.

Aprapos Byzcath, I have smoked nothing and had only decaf to drink… but I swear when i opened CAF EC this morning on my phone there was a big locked thread by Irish Melkite/Neil with a ton of information. Now I’m on my computer and see nothing of the kind…

You’re wearing me out hauling that tree… and reminding me hubby & I need to go get one today. 🙂

I humbly submit our parish’s webite (St Sophia UGCC), especially the links – scroll down a bit to see them on the bottom left.
Oh wow! You’ve even linked in Fr. Loya’s excellent “Light of the East” broadcasts, which I highly recommend to all (available as a Podcast as well)!

Humility aside, this is a very nice parish website with great resources linked in. I’ve added it to my list of favorites on my web browser.

By the way, do you ship your pierogies? I wish I were closer by!

One of my personal favorite sites…and Father Deacon Kotlar, once active at Patronage, has to be one of the most clear thinking and plain speaking and intelligent men I’ve ever met.

Agreed. They’ve done a great job on the website. I’ll be sure to pass on your comments.

I don’t know if the pierogies can be shipped. I’ll have to find out. 😉

What a beautiful iconostasis! Are there any pictures that show more clearly the entire altar area?

There are more pics of St Sophia on the bottom of this page.

Thank you! 😊 We have a lot of work to do still. It’s coming along. It hasn’t been live for long, so there’s a lot of tweaking and unfinished work.

The resources page is going to get a major overhaul in the new year. The placement of the links is difficult to find. That will be fixed in the new design.

Janet says that all pierogie pickups are at the church. 😃

You can see some more of the parish on the Flickr church tour flickr.com/photos/stsophia/sets/72157627855467709/

The tour will also be on the updated resources page with better pictures and a video will come in time. There are pictures of people and activities on the parish life page.

The Light of the East feed is unreliable. The CRI guys go in and update it so it populates the feed, but then it doesn’t automatically populate after they fix it and I have to write them again. It hasn’t updated since 11/15. If anyone knows how to help them so it populates correctly, please let them know. It’s a shame that the information is there but not connected.
