Internet Deals - Free iPod

I clicked on one of those internet deals that says you can win a free iPod. I did some research, and it turned out that there is actually a way to get a free iPod. The idea is that you have to sign up for one of the “offers” they have on their website, and then get 5 other people to do the same. Some of the offers had a free trial period, so you can sign up, then cancel your subscription. This is what I did, and I encouraged others to do the same. Was it wrong for me to sign up for those offers if I had no intention of continuing my subscription?

Yes, I did get a free iPod, whether or not you believe me. Is it wrong for me to keep the iPod now? If so, what should I do with it?

The company that did this promotion was well aware that there would be people who did the absolute minimum to receive the iPod, and surely made provisions to accomodate them. This is the cost of advertising, and a chance that they take. You did not deceive them in any way - you merely took them up on their offer without giving in to their pitch. No problem at all. Plenty of others will purchase whatever is being sold, and the whole exercise will end up being profitable for the sponsoring company. If it did not, they would not do it.

Keep your iPod and enjoy it.

Nice. Well, if you decide that you really can’t keep it in good conscience, you can give it to me. I’m willing to go to this extreme to help you out because that’s just the kind of guy I am. Anything to help a brother out.
