Who is your family’s internet provider and approximately how much do you pay per month and at what speed?

I am looking for an alternative to both AT&T and Comcast as both rates seem to be going up. Are there any alternative service providers you know of with low rates?

I don’t watch cable and therefore am not interested in bundling.

Thank You

I have had my internet with Cricket for many years now…I pay $45. per month and can use it anywhere Cricket has a signal. I travel for work here and there and it comes in handy to have reliable internet anywhere I go.

I have heard lately though, alot of people are ‘tethering’ internet from their cell phones to their computers and can somehow use the same internet signal. I do use an android phone that has this ability, but have never tried it, my laptop is much faster than my phone, so I doubt I would like it.

Im also curious about WIFI, I cant find a good signal in my area, but Ive heard many people build WIFI antennas, and they have free internet. I dont look at this as stealing either, because it works on the same principle that regular AM/FM radio does, and no one pays to use those. I wish I knew more about WIFI though.

If you don’t mind a slow connection, look for dial-up. Ours costs only $15/month. Because of our location, it’s dial-up or satellite, which is too pricey for us.

We pay $78 for internet and voice (unlimited long-distance), through Comcast. No cable TV here either.

For a while we had it at $54 through Comcast.
When they try to raise the price, just call and say you want to cancel service. Chances are good that they will offer you a good price again. 🙂

Wildblue Exede Internet by satellite. $60 per month flor 12 mbps. Where we live that is the only option besides dialup.

I am looking to pay $35 or less a month for internet only. Do I have any options?

I have a library one block from me with WiFi so I do have another option for getting it free but then cannot use internet at home.

We used to pay about that for Verizon DSL - that was five years ago, though, so I have no idea what it costs now. I wanted to go back to that, but our home is a “FiOS-only zone,” which is significantly more money (their base package is $75/month in our area, though they have a 12-month discount right now taking it down into the $60s, but of course it comes with a 2 year contract.)

Our Uverse cost will be going up $40/month when we get thru our 2-year introductory period, but it will still be way less than what we had been paying for separate home phone + DirectTV + wifi.

A long, looong time ago, our local library offered it for free. It was dial-up, but you were given a code to type in. The “catch” was that you had to prove you were a town resident, had to have a library card, and you were entitled to only one hour a day, per person, in your household.

Our library has free high-speed, and even when they’re closed, you can sit in your car and use it. Some restaurants in town also have high-speed, including a number of fast-food places. Some of them have unrestricted access; some have a password, but it’s printed on the receipt (in other words, “You wanna use our high-speed, buy something!” 😃 )

with a common WIFI antenna, you could probably access the libraries WIFI at your house, if its only a block away.
