So, Mrs Abbott-

If He has ever carried you in your life you were not driving at the time.
And without Him, you would not even know where to go or how to get there.
We see Him we feel Him and recieve Him at Mass where we Worship Him.

He takes care of the other details.

The Bible issues here are things he obviously was aware would take place.
He told us how to handle this. Its a non-issue. Sorry if that sounds flip, but I am being honest here. Heed his direction and dont try to take the wheel.
Well, on long trips, I usually can’t drive the whole time. I need someone else to take the wheel. The same could be said about my journey to Heaven. Sometimes I like to drive longer than I should but eventually I give in and let someone else help. 😃

Ya, I guess I forgot that part. 😉 Again, my brain seems to be working at “half speed” these days for some reason. It’s the holidays. That’s my excuse for the rest of this month, anyways. 😛
LOL! Its a good one I think!

Can I use it too? I’d add it to my disclaimer on my sig line, but I cant add more as space limitations prevent it. I dont know why when I see huge graphics on sig lines though.

BTW, did you ever click on it? I think you will find some interesting things on the page you get when you do. Just dont follow the other connected links as they are schismatic. But, the main document you get is totally okay to view without worry of schismatic heresy.

I did just now and I think I’m gonna have to devote some time to that if I want to really want to absorb the information presented. I will make a point to scan over it and see what I can find. 🙂

The Catholic Churches teaches that only the leaders of the Church should interpret the Bible and that’s the interpretation that the members of the Church should believe, am I right?
What makes them qualified to interpret the Bible versus someone else who might honestly be led by the Holy Spirit?
This is not an attack on the Church! I’m seriously asking so that I can know.
Also, how would anyone know if someone was led by the Holy Spirit? Does it boil down to trust or faith?
CCC: 112 - 114:

The Second Vatican Council indicates three criteria for interpreting Scripture in accordance with the Spirit who inspired it.
  1. Be especially attentive to the content and unity of the whole Scripture.
  2. Read the Scripture within the living Tradition of the whole Church.
  3. Be attentive to the analogy of faith.
It’s does not state that the Catholic Churches teaches that only the leaders of the Church should interpret the Bible and that’s the interpretation that the members of the Church should believe. For complete review Article 3, Sacred Scripture, CCC, page 30 - 38.

I think I need to post Die Verbum here, I just need to find it first.

That document is the best IMHO.

vatican.va/holy_father/benedict_xvi/speeches/2005/september/documents/hf_ben-xvi_spe_20050916_40-dei-verbum_en.html

You can click on the highlighted word Die Verbum and then you will get the document itself.

Its a good read but get some cocoa or something caffinated into you first.

This is what fully tells the story on Interpretting the Bible in THE WAY.
I clicked on it and am thinking that you’re right. Lemme grab a can of mountain dew and then get back to it. 😛

CRW,
Your assertion that the Catholic Church does not teach that only the leaders of the Church are to interpet the Bible concerns me, because I think you are mistaken. If you go on to page 39, Article 3, # 119 may help.

The Catholic Churches teaches that only the leaders of the Church should interpret the Bible and that’s the interpretation that the members of the Church should believe, am I right?

Not quite 🙂

  1. Some passages of the Bible have been given an “authentic interpretation” - not many, but some. A Catholic scholar would be required to accept such an interpretation, as a Catholic.
  2. Does this mean that no other interpretation of a passage is allowed ? No, it does not - what it does mean, is that that “authentic interpretation” has to be accepted; but it does not mean that no others are allowed as well. They were allowed before the a.i. was given, & they remain allowed after it.
  3. There is a lot of the Bible, & a lot of questions asked about it - as any scientific commentary will make clear. In proportion to the number of matters arising, the decisions & authentic interpretations of the Church are almost too few to register. ##

I answered “Yes” to the poll. However, I think that one of the tests for **authentic **personal interpretation is one that would not come into conflict with any other Church teachings.

Bible interpretation is often like peeling an opnion; there many layers of meaning. Immagine, for example, the descriptions of the Tabernacle in Exodus. There are physical descriptions of the various pieces, the jewels, the Holy Place, the Holy of Holies, the Arc of the Covenant and so on.

In addition to these physical descriptions, how many different theological pre-figurements are there in these items? For example, the Blessed Virgin Mary is called “Arc of the Covenant” for she carried our Lord.

Interpreting scripture is a good and fine thing; we can learn much. Regular reading and study of the Holy Scriptures is essential in growing in holiness. However, we must use caution as we apply what we, as individuals, read to larger theological issues and questions.

I answered “yes” because I believe that a well-formed conscience can be honestly led by the Holy Spirit in interpretting the Bible in its Truth. 👍
