Interview update - too good to be true?

Ok, I had the second interview. I am in shock. He barely asked me any questions. We talked about the industry and my previous employment. And when I asked him what the next steps would be he said ‘Tomorrow I get HR to make up an offer letter’. I just can’t believe it. He didn’t even ask for references? He even asked when I could start and we agreed on a start date right then and there !

I am in disbelief. All I can think is tonight is he going to go home and change his mind?

That would be my only question.

Praying it all works out! Hoping it is a less stressful environment that your last job. The odds that he will go home and change his mind are small, I think. I understand where you are coming from in your disbelief. Whenever I get extremely great news I always tell myself “I will believe it when it happens” even when others tell me it is going to happen for sure. Maybe this will happen though! I hope it does for you! Congrats!

Don’t be silly, Angie. Celebrate, give thanks to the good Lord for his providence and your obvious gifts. I will even do a little fat jig for you in the privacy of my own room. Well Done!

Usually when the employer has already made up its mind about you being a good fit for their company, the interview is just a formality. This is why they hardly asked you any questions.

Oh! I am so happy for you. This is what you have wanted for some time. Not only because of your recent search but also because of other employer issues. Congrats! A fresh start and a job that you have wished for. This is indeed cause to thank God!
 
Thank you everybody for your replies.

As I suspected, there is one little catch. (and it is a reasonable one). The offer is conditional on me providing 3 references and how they respond. They even want one from my current employer.

In Canada, most organizations refuse to provide a reference yet no one will hire you without one. Even the companies that won’t provide one :rolleyes:

So, my current employer is only willing to give a letter confirming the dates of my employment. The lady at HR will keep my request confidential. Then my last 2 positions were secured through head hunters who are willing to provide references. Hopefully that will suffice. If not, I am not sure what I will do.

So, I have sent my references to the new employer via email and I stated ‘Please advise once my references have been checked. I wish to wait for the confirmed offer before giving my current employer 2 weeks notice’

As for the money, 19% more than what I currently earn 😃
