I have heard many good things about that program. I am going to make a note to record it … thanks for the info!

Ditto on the “Thanks for the info.” I have heard it is good as well, and am now anxious to watch…will write it down on my calendar.🙂

I am sticking this thread as a reminder to everyone because there has been so much interest in this film over the years.

What is this film about? I will have to tell hubby to record it. funny note We just got DirectTV with DVR and we love watching EWTN. (We just joined the Church last Easter). Anyway, we told mom and dad (used to live with them for a good year or so) and dad said (he is Mennonite), “Oh, now he can watch that Catholic channel.” We would try to watch as much EWTN as we could when we lived there. Okay, so it doesn’t sound quite as funny in words on a screen, but the way he said it it was funny. 🤷

here is a synopis from their website…
Nestled deep in the postcard-perfect French Alps, the Grande Chartreuse is considered one of the world’s most ascetic monasteries. In 1984, German filmmaker Philip Gröning wrote to the Carthusian order for permission to make a documentary about them. They said they would get back to him. Sixteen years later, they were ready. Gröning, sans crew or artificial lighting, lived in the monks’ quarters for six months—filming their daily prayers, tasks, rituals and rare outdoor excursions. This transcendent, closely observed film seeks to embody a monastery, rather than simply depict one—it has no score, no voiceover and no archival footage. What remains is stunningly elemental: time, space and light. One of the most mesmerizing and poetic chronicles of spirituality ever created, INTO GREAT SILENCE dissolves the border between screen and audience with a total immersion into the hush of monastic life. More meditation than documentary, it’s a rare, transformative theatrical experience for all.

I bought the DVD. This is really great! It is best watched meditatively. Essentially while you watch this wonderful and tastefully done documentary, do what you see the monks doing. :gopray:

***This program was awesome; a MUST SEE! 👍 ***
It is great for anyone discerning the monastic life, and inspiring for the laity.

Hi, my first post, after my short introduction.

Does anyone know what would be the “equivalent time and day” in the Philiipines would the film be shown. I long to see the documentary! I love Carthusians!

There is a 12 hour time difference between Eastern Daylight Time in the USA and Manila time. So this would come on at 9:00 AM (morning) in the Philippines.

So I just finished watching it a few minutes ago. To be honest, I wasn’t sure that I’d be able to sit through the entire thing, but I did, and was very moved by it! I’ve visited some websites in the past that described their life, and for whatever reason it didn’t strike much of a chord with me. But after seeing it…wow, very moving! I LOVE their chant especially!

I was trying to notice though, when they were receiving communion were they receiving it in the hand? It would seem that if they were this would be something new, or is this how it has been for them…anyone know?
