Introducing 14 yr olds to pope John Paul II

Hey there!
I am a youth leader at my church, I lead a group of 13/14 year olds. We get together about every six weeks and discuss a theme, but since they’re so young we try to put in some activities like drawing, cutting and pasting pictures etc.

Next week I want to talk about the former pope, blessed John Paul II. I find him a very inspiring person and I want ‘my’ kids to know some things about him as a person and about his legacy. I’m looking for ideas that will help make this evening an interactive one. I’ve been thinking about printing pictures that have to do with JPII and having the kids link them together.

I was wondering if you have any other suggestions on how to make this remarkable man and his legacy accessible to young teens. Thank you in advance.
 
If you’re wanting to print out pictures, one suggestion would be to print out pictures of some of the 482 saints he canonized. (The list is in Italian, but Google Translate should be enough for you to at least identify the names of the most “high profile” saints of the list.)

You might also print out pictures to represent all of the places he travelled to as Pope.

And you could print out pictures of things that represent some of his other acheivements: pictures of the five luminous mysteries of the rosary, a picture of the Catechism (or better yet, an actual Catechism ;)), the Code of Canon Law, etc.
 
You could tell the story of how he grew up in Poland and when the war started he had to hide the fact he was studying for the priesthood. How he was an actor and a playwright and loved young people and took them on hiking trips. How his love for young people continued when he was pope and began world youth days.
 
There was an AWESOME comic book made on jp2 by Marvel in the early 80 s. I read it when I was about that age, and it really connected with me. It goes up to the assaination attempt.
It is out of print, but you can gind them on Amazon. Perhaps you could get an old copy and let the children share?
