Introducing the new Mass translation

How is this coming in anyone’s parish? In our parish our young misic director has been prepping us on new versions of the Great Amen and the Memorial Acclamation and that is it.

The clock is ticking and I think everyone will be caught ill prepared here abouts.

The Amen isn’t changing, at least our part isn’t. We still say Amen.

Our parish is well prepared. We have been working on informing the people since Advent of 2009 and had about 8 workshops about it since the spring. We have 2 pages in the bulletin each week since the middle of September describing the changes in each of the prayers that the assembly prays and even some that just the priest prays. If someone in our parish complains that they didn’t know about the revisions then they haven’t been paying attention.

We are now singing the revised Gloria, Sanctus and Mystery of Faith.

Our church hasn’t really prepared much and i expect it will be a hard transition.

Your post is also a little ironic to me since the real Tolkien didn’t like the transition from Latin to English in the mass and would continue to yell out the Latin in defiance.

here at the seminary we are learning all new mass parts

the gloria is difficult to learn because it is long and has changed my words.

everything else isn’t bad a few words have been changed but its an easy adjustment.

the only think we haven’t learned is the 2nd and 3rd memorial acclimation aka we we eat this bread and save us savior of the world.

we won’t do spoken parts like with your spirit and all that stuff till the 27th, even though I have heard our bishop gave us permission to use all the new translations earlier then others so we can know it on the 27th, only the mass that is only seminarians, but it hasn’t happened yet.

its an exciting time.

These have worked extremely well, because not only do they have the words on them, but they also have little histories about the parts.

some churches are bringing in new music for this stuff so they have to learn the new music even though its not different words for the amen.

One of my parish’s priests is doing two workshops, one on November 7, the other on November 14, in preparation for the new translation.

This wouldn’t be a defiance of Vatican II, though. The congregation is supposed to know the Latin responses.

I am hardly the real Tolkien. If I were there would be a lot of yelling in my parish, believe me. I wonder if we’re going to have printed cards with the new Creed translation, etc. I presume we will still have the Allelluia banged out to a cha-cha beat on the piano and etc.

No, Tolkien litterally would yell out the latin phrases during the whole mass while the rest of the church spoke in english.

And JRRTfan, your post just reminded me of this funny part of Tolkien’s life and faith. I do hope they start making little cards or else I’ll be a confused when we make this huge transition.
