Hi there,

I’m just reading Ratzingers “Introduction to christianity”. In general I liked reading it and there were many interesting chapters. However in chapter “Suffered under Pontius Pilate” it seems that he doesn’t accept the traditional catholic teaching of redemption and Christs death being a sacrifice to God. Or did I get him wrong?
As Benedict XVI he is one of my favourite popes. That’s why this is puzzling me…

He is speaking about John 10:17-18 where Jesus says “. . . . I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.”
