I do not understand the comments here.

I thought the motive of masturbation was sexual pleasure? If there were motives other than that, then that would not count as masturbation, right?

By definition, it is the stimulation for sexual pleasure.

Because if you are ‘masturbating’, but not doing it for he pleasure, then by definition it is not masturbating.

Is there something someone said in particular that led you to ask this?

Masturbation is always wrong regardless of motive. It still counts as masturbation and is still wrong even when done for some purpose such as obtaining a sample for medical testing. See this article for further explanation and reference to official Church teachings on the matter.

But i think most people when they are growing up,they have a feeling and such. I don’t get the anti sex stuff at all.

OP, I moved your thread to the Family Life sub-forum where subjects of this nature can be discussed.

This is where the Moderators have said these threads should be.

So, while I like your gif, I wasn’t trying to be funny. 😄

Someone above said that whatever &÷^÷tthe motive it is a sin.

Of coursre it is a sin, but if there is a motive other than sexual pleasure, then that is not masturbation anymore, because it changes the definitiono r meaning of the word

I am in no way saying that masturbation is not a sin. It is a sin. Just to make things clear, Nowhere have I said that it isn’t a sin. I just find it weird to hear that there is some other reason for doing it.

I think that when the act is wrong, then it is best just to get down to why it is wrong. If we start reducing the sinfulness of masturbation down to motive rather than the disorder of the act itself, then people absolutely will start saying, “But I didn’t do it for [sinful motive]! I [insert some weird story here]!” It’s a lot easier to discuss the inherent evil of an act than to try to tell someone, “Your motive isn’t what you’re claiming it is.”
