My wording here was quite lacking, I am sorry. Not so. If a communicant presents himself to recieve on the hand he is communicated on the hand before dipping the host. There is no exclusion of communion on the hand just not after the Host is dipped.
Furthermore, there are many thing either in or not in the GIRM that dictate things like this. Its a case of been there done that.
Agreed.Self intinction by the Communicant is forbidden. The Communicant is not allowed to dip the Host into the Chalice.
Precisely Phemie, thanks!I think what Gary is saying is that the priest would simply give the communicant Communion in the hand but in that case there would be no reception of the Precious Blood.

I think offering Communion under both species by intinction only would be a good way to reintroduce Communion on the tongue to a parish. The folks would still have the option to receive in the hand.Precisely Phemie, thanks!
Oh, that would not be a good thing to do. Catechesis is needed for the people. It should be very rare occasion if not almost non-existent, but the people must understand that if it would happen that we completely run out of the Eucharist, it is not required that they receive at each Mass, only annual reception is required. Again, I in no way mean we should make it a habit to get the count that close that we deprive the faithful of reception.I think offering Communion under both species by intinction only would be a good way to reintroduce Communion on the tongue to a parish. I remember about a decade ago we ran out of Hosts at a Sunday Mass. Priest called for the sacristan to fetch unconsecrated hosts and proceeded to intinct each into the remaining Precious Blood to give out Communion. I’d never seen this before and wondered about its licitness until the promulgation of Redemptionis Sacramentum which specifically forbid the intinction of unconsecrated bread.
