Without proper matter, the Eucharist isn’t valid. Why didn’t the parents request that their child only receive from the chalice?

Interesting how the story totally ignores the Precious Blood.

Good question. It seems that there’s another agenda being played out here in addition to concern for the girl. It’s amazing how easily some people are “wronged” by legitimate authority not making particular exceptions for their individual circumstances. How arrogant!

The Diocese of Trenton has told Waldman’s mother that the girl can receive a low-gluten host, drink wine at communion or abstain entirely, but that any host without gluten does not qualify as Holy Communion.Pelly-Waldman rejected the offer, saying even a small amount of gluten could harm her child.

Sigh. The priest did offer the precious blood but the mother refused. For what reason, we can only speculate. But my suspicion is that she wanted the media attention.

Just another typical response from the “Me Generation.” I want what I want and you can’t tell me I can’t have it!!!

Is there a problem with authority or what??

It is also beyond me why the girl didn’t just take the Blood. The only thing I can think of is maybe the small crumb of Host that is placed in the Blood might make her sick as well. But I’ve been to Masses where several chalices were used and it sure looked to me like not all the chalices had Host sprinkled in them - so she could theoretically have pure host-free wine. Strange behavior on the part of the parents! And of course the media is having a field day with it making the CHurch look like a big bully.

Let’s state the truth here. This isn’t about anything but a liberal who doesn’t believe in the Eucharist and is using their child to push an ‘agenda’.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this woman has friends in the VOTF or CTA. This is a strategic intent to cause heresy.

Just so everyone knows, in the U.S. at least it has been addressed before.

Here is a portion of that link’s article.

*Prior to now, the only low-gluten hosts available to parishes in the United States were from European suppliers. The Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration in Clyde, Missouri, have developed a true low gluten host ready for sale by January 1, 2004. The total gluten content of this product is 0.01%; its contents of unleavened wheat and water and free of additives conform to the requirements of the Code of Canon Law, canon 924.2. This low gluten content is still enough gluten to confect bread for the Eucharist. Many gluten-intolerant persons may be able to consume it, or some portion of it, but are strongly advised to check with their personal physicians in advance. This product is the only true, low-gluten altar bread known to the Secretariat and approved for use at Mass in the United States. The contact information for ordering such hosts from the Benedictine Sisters of Perpetual Adoration is as follows:

What is the VOTF and the CTA?

And am I going to regret asking? 🙂

VOTF is Voice of the Faithful - a lay group that formed in response to the sex abuse scandal. Some see them as unorthodox and with a mission to tear down the priesthood and hierarchy. CTA is Call to Action, a very liberal group that supports changing the Church’s teachings on abortion, birth control, married priests, women priests, and God knows what else. I don’t know about VOTF but my experience and knowledge of CTA is that they are also quite disrespectful of the sacraments and it’s a wonder they aren’t Protestant.
