Djerassi, emeritus professor of chemistry at Stanford and renowned inventor of the birth control pill, has spent the past 20 years writing on the human aspects of science. Scientists involved with the pill, Gregory Pincus died in 1967, John Rock died in 1984,Dr. Min Chueh Chang died in 1991, Russell Earle Marker died in 1995 and Luis Miramontes died in 2004.

What surprised me is that Djerassi was President of Syntex where he made his fortune. Syntex made birth control pills. Luis Miramontes was associated with Syntex and George Rosenkranz, still living, was Chairman of the Board. They have been put in the “U.S. Inventors Hall of Fame.”

In 1994, Syntex became a part of the Roche group, Hoffmann-La Roche Inc.
