But that is just the thing. For a rosary, yes, you can easily find something else to assist in hat. But what if,you are praying the divine office on an app, or reading a contemplative work on a kindle?
everything is findable somewhere else because its been adapted for applications and kindles.
I don’t have an objection people using ipads and kindles etc in church but if the parish priest thinks otherwise then I don’t have an objection either.
contemplative prayers are from the heart aren’t they and one don’t need a phone or ipad or whatever electronic gadget for that. Jesus didn’t have any of those items… though admittedly they weren’t around then and I would like to bet that He would use them fully today because to Him its about getting the Gospel out to as many people as he can reach and if that means YouTube etc then he would use it.
Put the phone away until you’ve had time to speak to that priest privately. It isn’t necessary for prayers. It wasn’t necessary for me to have emailed the priest five minutes before the service since he wouldn’t get it later but it did mean I got on with the service better. Though not essential. (The priest knows whats happening for me)
I would ask the priest for help with prayer if I needed my phone to pray. am not blushing because use phone to pray but well I did ask the priest help with prayer and got help. I don’t need the phone to pray What you do in your time is fine but what you do in the community has to be an awareness of the community
