iPod Prayers.

How effective is it to pray along with recorded prayers like litanies, novenas and even the rosary on tape, CD or MP3? What about praying along with the rosary on CD while in the car? I am particularly interested in helping the suffering souls in Purgatory. Any advice?

I dont see why not be effective. We use guitars and organs in mass to enrich our prayer and worship.

Personally I listen to a Preecher constantlly all day every day and it has effected my relationship in Jesus Christ.

God created the minds who made ipod and although it in itself is a worldy possession, We can use it to glorify God.

Using it in a way of worship God would be living out what God has called us to do.
  1. Love the lord your God with all your heart,
  2. Do all to his glory.
I would say go for it, and save our brothers and sisters from the fires of purgatory.

I don’t see a difference between praying with people who are present with you vs praying with people who prayed devoutly on a recording. The point is that you pray. It’s better than not praying at all.
 
there is an absolute ton of great catholic content for the Ipod. do a google search for these

there’s a lot more out there but this is more than enough to get you started. the rosary army podcast on SQPN has a nice scriptural rosary for each of the 4 sets of mysteries.

Most of this stuff is just broadcast. for music I see no problem with using music to help us in prayer as long as it is done in moderation.there is a value to silence that cannot be ignored.
 
The prayer is valuable because it’s in the hearts and intentions of those who pray, wherever they are and in what form. May the Lord bless you in your praying and in all aspects of your life!
 
Thank You all… I have picked up Fr. Benedict Groeschel’s Cd on the Way of the Cross for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. Having lost both mom and dad over the last 7 years, this whole “purgatory thing” has really been on my mind.

Wow, it’s funny you ask. I depend a lot on my iPod to pray the Liturgy of the Hours (in Latin). The Vatican Radio Station posts the recoreded Hours of Lauds, Vespers and Compline each day on their website. Everyday I download the files I need, and store them in my iPod.

I am very thankful for this way of doing prayer (even if alone with a recording) because I have come to know very well the proper melody for chanting. And in the case of the Liturgy of the Hours, you’re always praying the same prayer with somebody in your time zone, even we are all at different locations.

I have a CD in my car that I play on long trips when I’m alone. It has all of the Rosaries on it. I’t a nice way to pass the time in prayer instead of listening to a lot of the drivel that’s on radio nowadays.
