Two recent reports; the State appointed a forensic archaeologist a while ago

The full report of the government commission is due in September and will cover the other mother and baby homes with added concerns re mass graves there.

There remain two strands of this dark thread to be unravelled.

One is the issue of baby trafficking which was widespread with carefully selected babies being well cared for ready for this.

The other is the vaccine and other trials the babies were subjected to. That has already been stated re Tuam and recently one of the “big pharma” firms revealed that formula trials had been done at the Bessborough home.

What a gruesome task for all involved in this horror.

I doubt that GlaxoSmithKline will admit to just how many trials were done to those poor babies.

Actually GKC volunteered the info out of the blue so maybe some conscience there?We already knew re the vaccine trials at Tuam but this is new.

What has to be answered is the nearly 900 death certs and no graves. And they have known from the start that the babies were buried anywhere on the land owned by the Sisters, unmarked, unrecorded, so that there will probably be burials under the playground and under the houses. A solution has to be found that will honour the dead and the families.

I was on Achill Island recently and was deeply moved by the memorial in the main cemetery. To all the children buried in the ciuleines on the island.

After the big storm a few winters ago, the son of alocal non-Irish artist had found small bones exposed by beach. He had learned the custom of burying stillborns and unbaptised outside the church in unmarked graves. He then went all round the island, finding these places in every parish and marking them and collected for the memorial.

It gave peace and dignity.
